I am looking to add AC to my 90 Hatch. The Tennessee summers are just too much for me.
Who has done it, and how difficult was it? I would like to hear some personal experience.
BTW: Please no "Don't be a pansy. Just sweat like a man." comments. I am married. Nuff said.

Well, what I was thinking was that I could get the parts from someone who removed it from their civic or crx and just bolt it up.
I know I would have to get the system "recharged," but I don't know anything about the electrical or ecu considerations. I also don't know what parts/brackets I need to be looking for.

Cool. Do you know what all else is required for a functioning system?

Your mother. lol J/K In order to do this, it's probably going to take alot. Did you car have AC before? Also, do you still have the fan and plugs for the compressor? I mean, there are alot of factors that come into play to make sure that everything works correctly.

I don't think it had AC originally. There is no fan, condenser , compressor, etc. I don't have the AC button on my climate control either... so no. There is a little plate in the engine bay that says "Honda of Canada," so that explains it.
Cliff Notes: I need to piece together the entire system from the ground up - electronics and all.

I mean honestly man, is your car worth that much work? Not to bash your vehicle or what you're capable of but wouldn't it be worth more to you to just buy a Civic or CRX that already HAS AC? I haven't seen any pictures of your car or even thought about converting my CRX back to having AC but then again I live in Pittsburgh PA so it's not as much as a factor here as it is there. But anyway, there is ALOT of work to get a nonAC car to have AC from what I hear. But you would have to ask someone that would know better.
Wow, tell people that you're adding A/C and they turn ugly
I just acquired a full system for re-install. My re-install will be similar to your setup.
Here's what you will need:
A/C Core (goes underneath dash, I have one for sale actually
)
Evaporator / Drier (Goes underneath windshield fluid reservoir)
Condenser (Looks like a mini radiator, sits in front of Radiator)
A/C Fan, mounts next to your radiator fan
Compressor and compressor bracket
Hard lines (low/high pressure)
Wiring harness and A/C button.
New o-ring kit (honda still stocks them)
Your car should have mounting points and a small wiring connector near the blower motor to hook the wiring into. All the relays will come with the wiring harness, you will have to add the appropriate fuses for the system. As far as mounting hardware goes, once you mock the system up, it's pretty obvious where everything bolts to. If you don't get a kit with them I'm sure Honda still carries them.
Then just get the system evacuated and re-charged. I hope I didn't miss anything.
I will be doing a re-install DIY on my build thread within the next few weeks, so feel free to stop on by.

Excellent info, bro.
I can't wait to see the walkthrough.
