autocrossing
Hey I am new here. I am looking into buying some suspension components for my del sol. I know nothing about suspension. Like what is good or not. And I know a few little things about suspension components like strut tower bars, sway bars, and tie bars (still need to know more). I am hoping for something adjustable so that I can take it to the track and (lower it if possible) and stiffen it. Then after the day is done raise it (if possible) and loosen the suspension. Now keep in mind that for any suggestions that I have no idea what’s what as far as suspension goes. For instance what spring with what strut or shock. The event I will be driving in is (as the title says) autocross. I will appreciate any help you guys can give me. Sorry this post is kind of long.
Yeah I plan on racing it stock for a while. I am just trying to learn about suspension, so when the times comes to purchase the parts. I know exactly what I want, and how it works.

I agree. I run this setup and love it. And you can always change it somewhat once you have it.
I agree though. Autocrossing is almost all driver. Modify your driving tech. then change the car to get the small extra advantage. Oh and have fun

if you really wanna learn more about suspensions there is a ton of stuff archived on the site. recently i've been learning a lot about dampers and it seems like konis are the way to go. you can spend hours on here just reading old posts...well, atleast if you have no life...like me.
Here is some reading to get you started:

the adjusting ride height thing is going to be a pain.
not to mention your alignment specs are going to change when you raise and lower the car. just choose a ride height and keep it there. there will probably be no noticeable gain from dumping your car to autocross.
i guess if you are able to set the height EXACT each time it won't be a big deal, but depending on how much you raise the car, your aligment could be very bad. especially the Toe.
and then you have to determine where you wanna set the Ideal alignment settings. at race height? or at Street height? if you are a street height 97% of the time, and have some crazy toe , then your tires are going to wear out pretty quickly.
my civic isn't that low. alot of my friends are. they autocross and use the cars as daily drivers too. they don't have any problems at all.

What is a good ride height for on road and track use? And yeah I will have to use a camber kit to adjust my aliment right? some one said to use ground controle sleeves, what does that mean? i figured that the ground controle was just springs. Does anyone recomend any kinda of rims for autocrossing that look good on a del sol? Is there any rim that will compliment the koni yellows and g/c setup? does it matter what kinda of rim you have, are they all about the same?
thanks for all the help guys.

I dont' know if any of the other posts ACTUALLY auto-x IN a Del-slo, but I went through several trials of spring rates and setups. I finally wound up with Eibach (sp?) Pro springs and Ilummina shocks. Why? Like Hybridmoments said

I used to go to most events all year long, and trust me you don't want to be under your car adjusting heights at the end of the day to drive home.
I have heard great things about GC- they pick good spring rates and keep the suspension travel near stock (which is what you want). But the Del slo does not have the same wheelbase as a Civic- the car becomes very tight and harsh with higher spring rates used in coil-overs. I have ridden in a Civic with the same spring rates as my Del-slo and my ride was MUCH worse. I changed springs three different times before I went with the Pro setup
Koni yellows are a good choice too, but I never ran them.
