The LX isn't the best choice for speed, no. But you aren't screwed... you can swap a VTEC head from the EX on there and manage VTEC with a VAFC unit.

mostly wrong

adding a ex head really wont help you become that much faster

the em2/es1/es2 is always slow lx/ex/dx/vp w/e only way to maek it "fast" is Nitrous/Turbo

He doesn't sound like he wants to go super fast or do a huge amount of work, an EX head would yield some gain for him without becoming a huge project. Sure, it isn't comparable to boost but it'll do more for him than most any "regular" bolt-on that he can put on the car.

In that case... don't worry about doing anything to that LX motor that isn't boost. Either boost that motor or swap then boost. I'm not sure if there is much aftermarket parts support on the D17... so it'll probably be swap AND boost. Save your money if you want superfast.

First off turn your ******* caps off

Now then you have only two options to be fast either turbo or swap the only swaps you can do are k20 or k24/k20. You will not be fast any other way. Now search for turbos and swaps in the 2001-2005 forum. And in a way yes it was a waste of money but if you want to do alot to the car then no it was not.

I will sell you a brand new vafc 2 right now for 150 and that is cheap.

Vtec... Not Vtech...

Stop sounding like a ricer...

U need to learn more about your car before u dump a bundle of money into it. U will end up getting raped on installation costs, and end up killing someone because u cannot drive, and do not have the respect for a fast car, because u didnt not build it yourself, and have never been in a "fast" car before.

Do yourself a favor
#1 do all the work yourself
#2 take some classes at driving, so u dont embarass urself at the track
#2 never street race because the only thing your proving is that your an idiot.

i have the same car: 2001 honda civic LX
car isnt meant for speed unless you swap **hint** k-series :D:D

i say.. just go for the basics..
throttle body, intake, exhaust and upgrade the suspension a little.. it should make for a fun daily drive

EDIT: and lighten the weight of the car.

The only thing in your list that will actually benefit his power situation, is the k-series. All the intake, header, exhaust, throttle body, (what have you) bolt-ons won't lead to any feasible power increases. Not anywhere NEAR the value for the money spent.

VTEC head swap - 6whp - $300+ (including VAFC II)
I/H/E - (maybe) 10whp - $600+
TB - 0whp - $100+

So, at the absolute maximum, 16whp for (at the bare minimum) $1,000. And, you won't see any more hp from n/a modifications after that, without tearing the block apart (super-costly, and once again, inefficient). Absolute crap, when it comes to Power Value for Dollar.

ya i had the same dilemna on a post i wrote a couple days ago.

I got the same response basically to what you're getting.

1. This car isnt a fast car, the only way u can do that is, as said before, swap, or turbo.

2. I/H/E dont add to much power at all.

3. I dont have the money to turbo or swap my car, so i reccomend I/H/E and some cool exterior, and sace your money for a car that you can get to be real fast.

if you want to go fast, it won't be cheap. k-swap or turbo is your only choice.

if all you wanna do is i/h/e and put on a body kit and what not.. the only way that thing will go super fast, is if you push it off a steep cliff.

so just buy a k! k24a2
