Default turbo b16 crx

I can get a good deal on a rev hard turbo kit, I only want about 75whp gain, not looking for a massive increase. is that a good idea to spend 1200 for the rev hard or piece together my own kit since this is my first turboed car?

and if I piece together a kit whats the price im looking at? including engine management?
and best turbo parts to use?
thanks and I already searched but did not find enough info

The rev hard kit will easily give you another 75whp. You could piece something together a bit cheaper, but deciding if it is worth the hassle is up to you. That kit with a decent tune will easily meet your goals.

Best of luck with your project.

is the kit complete?? thats a pretty good deal. i paid $1400 for a revhard kit minus turbo about 2 years ago. if you can get the kit and then spend another $500 or so on injectors, chipped ecu, etc. then some tuning. be all set for about $2-2.5k.

I'm piecing together a turbo kit my self, and its going to be ALOT cheaper. Just know that there are things that you can cut corners on and things that you can't. Get a good name-brand turbo (i.e. Turbonetics, Garrett, Precision, Innovative, etc.), not one of those cheapo eBay $100 specials. They won't even make it out of your driveway. And don't go cheap on the BOV or wastegate (boost creep makes things go BOOM! and just doing it right the first time by buying quality **** that will keep working right is TOTALLY worth it). Get a decent set of injectors and a good enough log manifold (those are pretty cheap), and everything else you can just buy for cheap on eBay. Just CYA on eBay, theres LOADS of people looking to get over on your ***. And find a respected shop around your area to tune your car for you and look it over and make sure you did everything right (if your doing it yourself). Do your research, do your reading. Good luck.

ebay intercoolers and piping will work??

I have no clue how u'd be able to find a turbo, intercooler, piping, bov, wastegate, injectors, and manifold for under 1500, even for under 2K

Used Turbonetics T3/T4E w/ .63 a/r turbine housing-$300 delivered to my house
Rebuild kit for said turbo-$45 delivered
IC piping (made for a LS Integra)-$160 delivered
eBay IC 28x7x2.5-$110 delivered
HKS SSQV BOV-$200 (from my buddy)
TIAL 38mm wastegate-$210
Turbonetics log mani-$250
Misc. (oil lines, gaskets, boost cont., DP, etc.)-$200
Engine management-$??? (not sure what I'm going to go with, but you really shouldn't go cheap on that one either)

All in all, I expect to keep it under $2000, even after the engine management. Its gonna cost me nothing to tune it cause my buddy is a honda tuning WIZARD who is going to get me into the shop he works at after hours and do it for free. JUST my kind of price Like I said, eBay can be your friend, or if you let them, the people there will ROYALLY F*CK you, no comdom, no vaseline. COVER YOUR ***!!!! And theres a GREAT how-to manual somewhere on the FI forum that will show you how to do EVERYTHING. Good luck

oh and how do i match up t3/t04e manifolds with downpipes for a b16 88 crx?

and I have no welding/fab skills so how do I match up ic piping with turbo/manifold to be close to "bolt on" as possible? get 90-91 ic piping? and do they already come with a flange for the bov?

You might need some light modification on the IC piping, but I don't think it's anything a sawzall won't take care of. And buy some "hump" couplers that allow you to contort the coupler and mess with the angles of the piping, they are MUCH more forgiving than the straight couplers.

All the B blocks use the same ehaust mani bolt pattern, so they will all work. I've never mounted a turbo in a CRX, so I don't know how a t3/t4e will fit in there. The comp housing is a little bigger than the t3/t4B, but I don't think that it will matter too much.

I used to have a 89 CRX SI that I put a milled SOHC vtec head with i/h/e, a 4 puck racing clutch, and a 75 shot, and I used to eat Vettes and Stangs all day, so I imagine that thing is going to be WICKED. If you ever get this thing built and to the track, PLEASE get a video-if you can get everything running right you should be pulling 11's (even 10's) on slicks, EASY.

You are going to have to flip your rad. fans to the other side of your radiator and switch the wires around to turn them from puller fans into pushers, or you may even have to buy a half rad. to get that MFer to fit, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

yea i plan on getting a first gen dual core koyo civic radiator. im not to good with fabbing skills to make a bracket for it though. right now Im just getting together a list and taking notes on ideas. heres my ideas so far:

t3/to4e or to4B, which is better for 250-280whp?
log manifold
no clue how to find a downpipe that will fit. help please
greddy type-rs bov
tial 35mm 8.82 spring wastegate
currently i have 2.5inch custom exhaust
good oil feed/return setup. where do i get an adapter plate for my turbo?
wastegate dumptube good but not 100% needed.
tuned on p28 with hondata s100 with boost option

sounds good? and help with how to find compatible downpipe and ic piping that will need nothing more than a little cutting and pre-welded bov flange???!!!
thanks

If you are really only trying to get 280hp out of your B16, then I would recommend that you get a T3/T4B with an a/r no bigger than .63. You say NOW that all you want is 280, but as soon as you have that, you're gonna start wondering "I wonder what 350 feels like?". Its better to have more than you want there so you can tao into it anytime you want. That doesn't mean you should buy a HUGE turbo, I'm just saying, leave youself a little breathing room so you don't have to keep buying a new turbo to feed your horsepower addiction (and it IS an addiction, trust me). Go to turboneticsinc.com and they have a spread sheet with a turbomatrix on it that will give you the manufacturers suggestions for your app. I looked on ebay for a purpose built IC piping lit for your car, but no luck. Start a new thread here and ask if the IC piping kit for a teggy will work for your CRX, and if not, how close/not close is it to working.

I agree with the comments that he could piece together something for less than the kit, but he pointed out its his first turbo system, so IMHO the kit is easier and safer. Once you have some experience with it and know what everything is, how it all works and what is REALLY important, then there is no need for a kit.

I guess it comes down to what you, yourself feel comfortable doing. Peace of mind does have a dollar value. ; )

Best of luck with your project.

i cant afford a 3K dollar kit plus tuning, that just aint gonna happen. i feel comfortable doing a little cutting and maybe some welding for the ic piping, but another one of my "worries" is making a downpipe or finding one to fit my app. just a log manifold with tial wastegate and t3/to4e manifold. i understand all the other concepts and how to do them, even the oil feed/return system is easy as pie to me. I just hate the idea of making my own downpipe, it scares me
