Default why is VTEC louder???

I have a quick ques how come when VTEC engages on a Civic SI it is a lot louder than a GSR's VTEC engagement is it because of the different intake manifolds?

Yes, the GS-R hits VTEC at 4400 RPM but the intake manifold is still running on the restrictive intake runner. When the short wide runner opens at 5800 RPM, that's when it gets loud.

EDIT: The reason it does this is to get a flat torque curve. The GS-R engine has three stages of operation instead of two like the Si or ITR which have "double hump" torque curves.
