I sat in and drove an 07 Sport Fit today and it was really nice
It had lots of room in the interior, the rear seats are awesome ... but my problem is the driver seat. I'm almost 6'6" and my legs felt cramped. My head was fine, but the legs were a different story. Maybe another inch or two would have been great.
Anyways, here's my question:
Is there any way to get more leg room without too much modification? Perhaps a trick from the Miata world where you can remove some padding from the seat back?
Thanks for any help

i'm 6'3" and fit in my fit just fine, so you will have to cut 3" inches off some where
.
i imagine you could modify the seat brackets some how, since they are basically on a perch.
BUT, at 6'6" you actually fit in a miata!? wow. my wife has a 90 miata and i sure dont have much in the way of headroom in that thing. did you remove padding in the seat cushion and or the back cushion?

Hehe, I have an aluminum racing seat attached to the rails. The miata is my project/race car
I'm buying a FIT also... but I seriously never thought the scenario.. what if I'm 6'6".
luckily I'm just 5'9"...
bu thanks for bringing this up.. my manager wants a new car and I'm bragging so much about the Fit but he's 6'3 or so I believe.. he probably won't like the Fit that much

I'm going to have to find a different dealership. I went to the Nissan lot in my freshly washed IS300, got out in my slacks and dress shirt, went inside, walked outside, and nobody came to talk to me. Hehe, their tagline is, "The Nice Guys" ... riiiight

It is possible. I won't plug another forum here but a Canadian moved his seat up 2 inches higher and back 3 inches. However he is very closed lipped as to how he did it and won't even post a pic.
Hate when people do that. Find a solution then not share it other than to say they did it.
He did say he did it at home so I would say look at how and where the seat rails are mounted and see if you can relocate them back a little. He also said he can put it back to the factory location if he decides to sell the car.
I'm 6'2" so I can understand you wanting to move the seat back farther than it goes.
Another good mod for tall people is raising the rear-view mirror. This is how that works.
Remove the rear-view mirror and there is a spacer there which you can take out. You'll need 3 flat washers to put on the bolts when you reinstall the mirror. Remove the rubber cushion that goes against the windshield and turn it sideways and put it back after reinstalling the mirror.
To remove the cover stick your finger in the front of it and pull it towards the windshield it comes of very easy.
Here is a picture of the mod afterwards. I'm holding the spacer that I removed in my hand and you can see the washers and the rubber cushion which goes against the windshield.

Enjoy and hope that helps. At least you know it can be done.

I went in the dealership wearing my "maintenance" looking uniform from work. Had no problem getting attention. I looked like a mechanic... or a janitor

so did you purchase this car? If so, whats your MPG? I've heard stories of these cars getting a "chip'd ecu" for 50mpg ....?
as for the seats - I too am 6'4" (long legs though) and didnt FIT comfortably ... I'm still going back to buy it - just haven't picked the color ...

If been thinking about trading my 02' Civic for a Fit. I'm going to test drive and see if it's really all it's cracked up to be. I need a four door and I like the utility of the hatch. Plus, you get $1k off from Honda right now because the Fit meets some new mileage benefit the Government is running. (I think Honda is doing it separately to the government intiative - maybe just in Ontario, Canada.)

No, I didn't pick one up. I really don't want to modify a car again so that I can fit.
