98 Accord LX Consuming oil
I've got a 98 Accord LX with 96k miles. For the past 30k miles it has been consuming oil at a rate of 1.5 qt per 4k miles. This has accelerated a bit to the point where a sufficient amount of oil (2-3 qt) is consumed to cause the VTEC sensor to signal the Check Engine light after only 3k miles. There are no visible leaks and never any smoke or smell.
Is this rate normal or cause for concern?
Is there anything I should be doing to slow down the consumption rate?
Thanks,
Bonafide

Well; in 98 Honda changed to a different cylinder sleeve, softer "composite" for better fuel mileage rating.
Check/Change the PCV valve is the first thing I'd suggest.
Try using the Castrol "high mileage" oil 10w30 [Green container]

yeah, both prior suggestions are good!
Have you checked your exhaust? Is there any black sooted carbon buildups on the inside tips at all? What about just a slight puff of white smoke initially when you start up a very cold motor (bad valve seals)?
Have you seen a dip in your gas mileage or any other problems?
And are you absolutely positive nothing is leaking (like put the car under jackstands and crawl underneath)? You'd be surprised how bad of a leak you need for it to actually show up on the driveway.
