Default Seats and SRS

I've just helped my son put some Sparco sports seats in his 2003 Honda Civic 3DR hatchback (UK Spec). As described elsewhere, disconnecting the side airbags leaves the SRS light permanently on and (I believe) disables the entire airbag system including the remaining airbags.

Acting on advice from another forum, I rang our local Honda dealer who I was told would be able to reprogram the SRS system to ignore the airbags that have now been removed but it appears that this is not possible.

I've found the thread at http://forums.clubrsx.com/show...seats which describes one method but does anybody know whether this will work on a Honda Civic? I've read on forums for other cars that the SRS can effectively be fooled into thinking that the airbag is still there by connecting a resistive load to the airbag connector but I haven't seen anything about this on the Civic. Does this seem feasible ?

Failing that, is there any solution to this problem? Could he replace the Sparco seats (which he bought secondhand so could probably sell on again) with Type-R seats for example and "simply" move the airbags and sensors from his stock seats to these?

Surely somebody must have come across this problem before - if so, any help would be very much appreciated.

Regards

Mark
