mine does this from time to time as well, I thought it smelt more like stale cat **** than silicone, but I see how you could get those two confused. I have no clue what makes the smell, but my girlfriends del sol does the same thing.

Are you sure it's not the smell of mildew? Before turning off your car, you should turn off your A/C about two minutes prior and leave the fan on to cycle out the cold air.

Im in florida, and you start to grow mildew if you stand still too long here, so yes it probably is mildew in my case, I always turn the AC off before turning off the car though.

It is definitely mildew in the AC system. There is a foam cleaner designed to kill it by being injected into the AC system and it can be prformed by almost any shop. There is little to stop it other than turning off the AC before stopping.

If you keep the system on fresh air instead of recirculate the smell will eventually go away and never come back.
I only put it on recirculate in particularly smoggy areas or when I want to cool the car very quick, otherwise always leave it on fresh.
