What's wrong with my heater fan?
The fan for the heater/AC in my car isn't working any more. It used to work sporadically, and I could make it turn on by moving the fresh air/recirculation lever back and forth quickly, but that no longer works. It's not the switch, and the AC compressor still works when I push it, but the fan won't blow. Could this be:
loose wiring,
a blown fuse,
broken fan?
thanks

Your fans probably shot, or your fan relay might have crapped out, keep in mind the car is 13 yrs old, its probably seen its last days of original parts. I say time for a slimline upgrade that blows much more cfm.

You have come to the right place-drop me an e-mail (jc836@aol.com)and I'll get you a complete blower-with good resistor pack for a decent price-like it is sitting here <G> looking for a home. It is out of my 89 CRX Si and fits 88-91 Crx's and should do in a Civic too. If you need a control unit-I have that too.
BTW: If my memory serves me-I have an ad for a complete AC from the car available.
I agree that you have probably lost the motor.

oh if you are doing the blower fan for the AC then here are a few tips. reach under your dash behind the glove box. take out the glove box and try to take out the blower motor and fan. Its a cylindrical fan that turns really fast. There will be a little 3 coiled resistor, that controls your fan speeds. If that thing is no longer coiled you may just need a new resistor. What I did was I pulled out the fan blower and the resistor (which no longer was coiled and looked ugly). I stole a good resistor pack from my friends torn up civic. it was good popped it in and nothing. I then proceeded to steal the blower fan and motor from his civic. about an hour later I was done. I also found out that my AC worked, when it didn't prior to. Talk about a rewarding day. When you pull out and replace the blower motor, you may run into some sound deadening material which will be in your way. You may want to consider chopping that out of your way just to make life easier. That was time consuming for me seeing that I didnt have any large scissors. HTH
Well I took out the resistor pack (flat plate with 3 coils) and they were kinda broken and corroded. Do I have to replace anything else? I took apart and reassembled the dash and it was hot out and it took a long time, so I'd rather not do that again

Corroded-hm.
Make sure the blower turns freely. The unit I have here has no signsof corrosion-the fan has normal surface rust but everything looks new otherwise. BTW: The unit I have is fully assembled.

I did some checking and it seems that since one of the coils was broken, it's probably an explanation why I haven't had any flow on the "1" setting for years!
It wasn't corrosion, it was some sort of anti-vibration gum. Regardless, I tried a new resistor pack and the fan still didn't work, so it's something else. The 30-amp fuse under the dash appears fine, so what else could the problem be? Also, how much is that new unit :\

Price check on that fan...also, got an estimate on how many bolts I have to pull to get the fan out? It's just the cylindrical housing, right? The part on the left is the heater core?
Hey dude, how much is that blower you're selling? I'm going to do electrical diagnostics tonight or tomorrow (got the flowcharts from the library) and a physical check of the fan...maybe something was holding it in place and burned out the stators.
