Automatic Transmission Flush
my car has 50,--- miles on it, and at the dealership today, they said i needed a transmission flush. should i go for it? it'll cost me $200... is it possible to do it myself at home?
i've heard that a tranny flush is bad for the car if it's too late and the tranny can be destroyed entirely if the replacement is attempted too late, so i'm not sure if i should do it or not.

Here is the deal with a flush.. it can be bad if not done properly.. the dealer should be able to do it correctly.. its the monkeys at a quick lube i would not trust. because honda builds such weak trannys
I would be inclined to do some fluid flush be it drain and fill and drive or have the dealer do it.
Good luck

Yo my advice is tiiite..
you can do the drain and fill and drive a few times if you don't want to take it to the dealer. just use OEM fluid.

I worked in a Honda shop for 10 years. we started out just doing drian and fills and never had problems. a few years ago "BG, Wynn's," and other companys started pulling this "hey we will give yoou our machines to do the flushes, you just sell our product! well the machines work good. But there product sucks. I have had a bunch of come backs with shift problems. "I.E. my own car. So i would say do the flush but tell them not use the treatments and that you should use a case of oem ATF-Z1 fluid. "12 bottles" good luck!!
i just changed mine at 50k also. but just drain and refill. none of at machine stuff. im saving the machine stuff for 100k. good luck with your decision.

This usually happens with cars that have fairly high mileage and have had very little service to the auto trans thru its life. Using the flush chemicals is basically the same as changing the fluid but they have high concentration of detergents and dispursents(sp) and they can clean out any build up in the trans and cause problems. But then again just changing the fuild can do the same thing. Its always a risk doing any fluid change if it has been neglected.
