2000 si gas
sorry for the noob question, i totaled my ep3 and now im just looking at this gen civic, for a stock 2000 civic si, do you need to use premium or can i use regular gas
If you're asking whether it's going to explode if you run regular fuel in it, the answer is no, it won't. However, it was designed for premium, and the ECU will pull timing to compensate for the lower octane.
+1 I'm with Padawan
Using a lower octane gas won't neccesarily "harm" your motor, the ECU will adjust to run on the lower octane.
But, If you want the motor to run at it's fullest and have the best performance, go with the 93.
It's only ~ 20 cents more per gallon.. Well worth it in my opinion, especially on such a high reving motor like the b16a2.
Oh and BTW, I have a 00 si, and I always use premium. I would never put anything less than premium into it.

^^ I dont think it will ping. Older cars used to ping, but like mentioned earlier, the ECU will pull timing and adjust to the lower octane. You may not be allowing the motor to run at it's full potential, but I do not think it will ping, but dont quote me on that. I've never run less than 93 in my si.
^ I have also heard that, but I cannot think why it would matter.. Other than maybe it would "pick up" some of the "trash" from the bottom of the tank
I would also like to know if that is really true, thanks for bringing that up.

You're mistaken, especially since 93 octane is not available nation-wide. Even the ITR owners manual states 91 octane.
