The '99-'00 Civic Si calls for premium fuel.

If you're asking whether it's going to explode if you run regular fuel in it, the answer is no, it won't. However, it was designed for premium, and the ECU will pull timing to compensate for the lower octane.

+1 I'm with Padawan

Using a lower octane gas won't neccesarily "harm" your motor, the ECU will adjust to run on the lower octane.

But, If you want the motor to run at it's fullest and have the best performance, go with the 93.

It's only ~ 20 cents more per gallon.. Well worth it in my opinion, especially on such a high reving motor like the b16a2.

Oh and BTW, I have a 00 si, and I always use premium. I would never put anything less than premium into it.

It will probably knock/ping if you put 87 in it right?

^^ I dont think it will ping. Older cars used to ping, but like mentioned earlier, the ECU will pull timing and adjust to the lower octane. You may not be allowing the motor to run at it's full potential, but I do not think it will ping, but dont quote me on that. I've never run less than 93 in my si.

^ I have also heard that, but I cannot think why it would matter.. Other than maybe it would "pick up" some of the "trash" from the bottom of the tank

I would also like to know if that is really true, thanks for bringing that up.

Actually it's 93, not 91.. Well at least it is according to my owners manual, and the sticker on my fuel door.

You're mistaken, especially since 93 octane is not available nation-wide. Even the ITR owners manual states 91 octane.

Okay, well is 91 still considered Premium? Because here, in Tampa its.. 87,89,93.

Some places DO have 91, but you don't see it much.

Yes, in certain states/areas, the premium grade is 91 octane.
