Default 01 coils on a eg/dc aftermarket strut?

anyone know if it would work, thinking about buying ground controls from a friend if they would work.

It's like using 98 Mustang shocks on a 73 Datsun.

is it because the coil or cup itself is too big to sit onto the strut?

the coil is too short and too wide.
