Default Need suggestions on performance parts

I got a 2002 civic lx sedan, and i got 16 inch enkei rims, with full tint. I have a K&N cold air intake coming on wednesday. I really want a skunk2 exhaust, but they dont make them for my trim. As far as exterior goes, im pretty much set on what im gonna do, but after intake and exhaust i'm a little lost.

1) In another post i was reading about being able to do a Vtech swap. Im very interested in that, how much horsepower would i gain (if any) and would i need to use premium gas? How much would it cost and what are we lookin at for the install?

2) I dont want to turbo my car, but id prefer more "bolt on" performance up grades, such as cams, pulleys, throttle body spacers. Do those sound like wise choices? And any reccomendations on quality brands? Im definately into spending more for the quality.

Any other recomendations or hints on fine tuning a civic would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

bolt ons will not amount to big power gains...it'll make the car sound nice...maybe feel a bit more peppy...but its not going to make more than 10whp from all the bolt ons combined.

vtec not vtech...vtec head swap is expensive and not worth the power gains....no u don't need premium gas for this but its a big waste of money IMO...

just do the following...intake header exhaust high flow cat...and remove your power steering...call it a day and save for a swap or buy another civic thats easier to mod or with a better engine.

just my 2 cents...i've heard u can get the car pretty quick with turbo but in terms of bolt ons its all noise...

first off..you can try searching, this topic has been covered too many times.

i/h/e all together will barely get you 5 hp and thats if your lucky. all bolt-ons do is just makes the car sound deeper if you get the right stuff.

as for the vtec head swap. COMPLETE wasted of money..your better off trading your lx for an ex. i, myself, drive an ex and the manuel says only put in 87 octane. just because a car has vtec doesnt mean it needs premium gas.

pulleys, cams, tb spacers won't do much. honestly pulleys will just screw up a d17 more. if you dont want to turbo, swap in a k20. basically what im trying to say is the only way you can make a 01-05 civic fast is if you swap, turbo, or nitrious.

wow i wasnt aware of the very small power gains by the bolt on performance upgrades.

A swap huh? I no nothing about swaps, or the price, i assume they are really expensive, and how much gorsepower would i gain from a K20?

Thanks

Dude, search.

The search button is up on the right hand corner of the page, in bright red coloring, you cant miss it.

OR, you can always search Google.

In my opinion, your best bet is to lower the car (the CORRECT way, with a good spring/shock/coilover combo) or do some other suspension mods (RSX rear sway bar, front strut bar, etc).

I'd also do the typical boltons (intake, exhaust), and maybe some tasteful interior/exterior upgrades (lip kit, wheels, etc). Check out some of the rides in the picture thread, should give you some ideas.

Good luck with your search, let us know how it goes.

Portaman- Thank you, ive been trying to reasearch K20 swaps, but my engine still has low miles so i'll be sticking with it for a least 100k miles. I am going to do intake header and exhuast( just got my K&N today) and probably just do that.

Silveric- I was aware that i could use premium gas if i wanted regardless of a vtech swap, but thatnks for the assurance.

Toenail said that pulleys would screw up my d17, has anyone had experiences with that?

Lol...
Our cars do not need premium gas. It is a common misconception that a stock tuned naturally aspirated car will run better on premium. What an octane rating actually means is the fuel's resistance to predetonation. The higher the octane rating, the harder it is for fuel to ignite.

So if youre not boosted, and your not running high compression, you dont need premium. You only need it if your intake air charge is really hot, so that your fuel doesnt ignite before its supposed to. Dont waste your money, as you will see no benefits from it.
