Default Am I crazy, or should I just kill advanced auto (see pictures)

Well I picked up a reman drivers side front caliper for my CB7, installed it, then looked at it and said WTF.

Old Caliper

New Caliper

Tell me the caliper is making enough contact with the brake pad, it does not look right. The other side does not look like this. With the slight differences in part numbers on the calipers, could they be different? When I look down at the assembly when I tightened the two caliper bolts, the caliper looked to be angled away from the caliper bracket when the bolts were tightening. Could the caliper be bent? It is not allowing me to keep the bracket flush on the pads when bolted down. Help me!

first off using advanced to buy reman calipers is crazy, with any retail automotive supplier like advanced, or autozone your rolling the dice when buying your brake parts from them. the reasons being:
1) when a customer buys brake caliper they are assuming that the customer knows exactly what car he has, so if the guy before you had ordered a wrong year or wrong manufacturer of the caliper, advanced is assuming that the caliper core they receive is going to be correct, so they send it back in the box to be remaned.
2) most people buy reman parts assuming there correct and since there guaranteed for life that there gonna be perfect. not the case, every reman company is using the cheapest or inexpensive means possible in order to save money and increase profits, so you get what you pay for in almost every case.

now i can understand that you want to save as much money as possible, who doesn't right?, so look into other options for getting your brake components instead of going the retail route like the rest of the innocent automotive cattle out there:

instead of buying a reman, why not have your original calipers rebuilt, the majority of the time the caliper slider pins and and the piston seal and dust boot start to stick or crack or leak, these can easily be replaced and a caliper cleaned and put back into use, usually for around the same price as a reman from advanced. so look around and and ask a few technicians if they can recommend a local shop to rebuild your calipers.
if you really want a nice set of calipers that not only work better than oem and look way better than try a set of after market calipers, you don't have to buy high performance ones like brembo or wilwood, theres a few inexpensive performance upgrades available for hondas out there, just google it, you'll see.
as far as your situation at the moment id say that the caliper is incorrect or the slider pin bores were cut wrong, happens when you use cheap remans like that, second if the picture you posted is correct in color ease off using the antiseize cause its everywhere, and doesnt play well with brake components, yes i know the parts monkeys at advanced sell it in a lil packet at the check out counter but its not recommended by the oem manufacturer or ASE certified technicians, instead pick up a tube of sylglide from napa or carquest, works better and wont dry out over time which helps keep your slider pins sliding and your calipers from squeeling. hope you get your brak4es figured out soon enough,

peace

just take it back and get another one. The part numbers are diffrent because one is a left and the other is a right. Just explain to them that its the wrong one, and have it changed with another one.

The only problem with rebuilt calipers, or any rebuilt component that is, would be that you have no idea how many times that part has been used. Think about it, your car is 15 years old, lets say the caliper has been changed changed every 3 years, that means that its possible that, that particular caliper has already been rebuilt 5 times, and so, sometimes new ones leak, or crack or w/e.

With that said, it doesnt mean that they are bad, you just have to potentially exchange a couple before you get a good one.

Infact, just this past friday, I did a 2002 ford focus, the customer bought OEM ford calipers, and the piston was leaking on a brand new oem caliper. Just some food for thought.

wait, I just realies something.

Your reusing your old bracket. why dont you try switching your original caliper bracket with the bracket that came with the caliper.

I took the caliper back today, under closer inspection not only was it bent but it was tapped at an angle, almost like whoever retapped it did it at an angle to compensate for it being bent, unreal.

Hopefully this one works, thing that sucks is I cant work on the car now because a random thunderstorm outside I hope I do not have to wait until tomorrow to figure it out.
