They debuted in September of 1992, which in American model years, counts as a 1993 vehicle. Just like there are 1995 EK3's .... doesn't mean it's not a 6th gen.

There's also a 1993 DC2, a 1995 EK, a 2001 DC5 ... etc etc etc ...
but when you bring them to America and register them, they go by model years, not production dates. Their 1992 Del Sol is still a 1993 Del Sol to us.
