Looking into getting a wideband gauge kit so when i do further mods i can make sure my AFR's arent screwed.. also to break in an engine before it gets tuned.
Anyway, looking for opinions or suggestions on what to get.
so far i am looking at:
AEM UEGO $250
http://www.aempower.com/ViewCa...ID=67
PLX DM-5 $269
http://www.plxdevices.com/products/dm5/afrsmcombo/
PLX M-300 $315
http://www.plxdevices.com/products/m300/
If i am not mistaken, the AEM product doesnt have narrowband/stock O2 support?
so i think that rules the AEM out
(i want to use this when i do an OBD1 conversion, so for the O2 sensor)
the DM-5 seems the best option.. if i ever want to tune can i just hack the harness to use for data logging? or is the PLX for a bit more money worth it?
at this stage i just want to monitor AFR's when i mod. slight possibility of getting into some tuning though
any other product suggestions?

"User-programmable 0-5v analog output included for use with data loggers and virtually any engine management system" that's your signal for your OE signal to the ecu if replacing the original O2 sensor.
Me personally I'm gonna get the AEM unit, all the stuff it does is all in the gauge itself which makes for one less thing to mount and hide and when it comes to AEM you're not getting a cheap product....... Why is it the M-300 is a smaller stand alone unit that costs more than the DM-5? I'd say IF you were going with all PLX gauges than having the DM-5 would work to allow everything to be linked and matching, like going with all Defi gauges...
There's a write up for how SuspendedHatch installed one on his 95 civic:

Me personally, im going with the poor man's special.. im gonna get the innovate lc-1 cable and the moates.net o-meter. comes in at around $260 all said and done. lc-1 has 2 programmable outputs, so yo ucan set one to be narrowband for the ecu, if you want, and one for the wideband to the display.

thanks for the reply sanimalp
so what benefit would that have over AEM?
i am a noob to tuning hardware.. better for tuning? can have easier logging capabilities????

Just my personal experiences with AEM, you can't exactly get your monies worth here.
It will feed narrow band to the stock ECU but the o2 sensors themselves seem to have a short life. OK, ridiculously short life. My last two made it less than 400 miles prior to going dead and reading a constant 14.7 afr. If you use innovative, you can go to the VW dealership and buy a new 02 sensor for a golf 1.8T and it works with the innovative for 36 bucks. Cheapest place I ever found the AEM unit was 60 bucks on Summit.
Personally, I am done with the AEM and will be replacing it with something else soon.

AEM does seem quite mainstream
where as the PLX seem more homebrew tuner style company
still waiting on suggestions..
how would i go about datalogging using these?
can i hack the wiring?

PLX is a good choice also, as is the innovate wideband. The main benefit of the lc-1 o-meter combo over the AEM is first, cost, and second functionality. the lc-1 and o-meter combo is the cheapest option on the market, including o2 sensor pricing. Second, the o-meter has a lot more functionality than the AEM. the o-meter can display A/F, lambda, or raw sensor voltage.. it also has a rich and lean warning alarm built in. It can also datalog about 2 and a half minutes of data. It also supports correction factors, so if you somehow know that your sensor is off a touch based on the placement or something, you can correct it in the guage. there are quite a lot of options you can set to configure it..
The best way to datalog all this is through your ecu.. the o-meter does have built logging, but its not coupled with the rpm or map sensor value, so its hard to interpret where you need to adjust injector duration without some formal datalogger that puts all that together. obd0 you can use turboedit and ecucontrol, and obd1 you can use crome and ecucontrol, or probably just crome anymore.
it looks like moates.net offers a discount on the lc-1 and the o-meter if purchased as a combo.. which actually brings the price down to $243.
im not gonna lie that if i had the money, i would probably go with the lm-1 kit.. but the moates setup is what i would go with given that i am on a budget, but i still want a quality setup.

thanks for the good reply sanimal..
i am now thinking i might go for the AEM
240 on ebay.. easy wiring and with an adjustable output and a serial output..
seems easy to setup..
seeming though logging i have to send a 0-5v to the ecu anyway.. it is kinda much of a muchness? ie, it doesnt matter too much
most seem to use bosch too
