AC Problem - Compressor Cycles while Driving - Civic 03
Hello Everyone,
I hope someone can help with this problem. My '03 Civic EX 5 speed has had some air conditioning problems since the compressor was replaced after an accident last year. I highly doubt it was OEM equipment as it was an insurnace deal. I noticed this season that the compressor was cycling while I was driving. I could smell the increase in humidity every minute or two and the air didn't get too cold.
I checked the low side with one of those cheap gauges (yes, I know, bad idea). Pressure would go up to about 27 then drop to below 20 (cycling). I filled with a pre-mixed R-134 and oil that I bought at autozone (10.5 oz). Got the pressure up to 21 (constant).
When the car is idling the ac performs great! However, while driving, I notice that the compressor cycles every few seconds. Mostly at speeds greater than 35 MPH with RPM > 2000 (cruising speed). The reason I'm sure its cycling is that I can feel a slight jolt as the compressor turns on and off and power drops.
Did I put in too much oil & refrigerant? Could this be a bigger problem. I'd like to do all I can to fix it myself so any direction is appreciated. I'm not afraid of buying books and equipment that can help.
Thanks in advance for your help. Let me know if you need more information.
Thanks
Josh
