short shifter-not much change!
first of all its OBX from ebay this could be my whole problem. But either way, when I first put it in, shifting was a little difficulty as expected and just a tiny bit shorter. Not really much at all. In my cousins rex his shifter shifts about twice as faster. but now anyhow, mine has loosened up a lot and isn't that much shorter anymore(maybe I just got used to it) So is this the way it should be or do I need something a little more expensive and brand name as compared to 35 + s/h
no, i got a ss off of ebay for like $20. Shifts are extremely short and quick. Slopiness might be due to old bushings or the bolt that goes through the shifter isn't tight enough.
I have a DC shifter. The throw length is pretty much half of what it was with the stock shifter. It works well, but ive heard there's better shifters out on the market.
stock Honda transmissions were not designed to handle the extra leverage that a short throw shifter gives. some of the trannies especially the cable clutch types have had problems with syncronizers. installing a short throw shifter will surley shorten the life of the already weak snycros. So before you install or keep your shifter, weigh the consequences. I use a stock integra shifter and works just fine.

yea i havent found a short shifter to be that great with hondas. my crx already has a fairly short throw as it is. so i just replaced all the old bushings with new poly ones. that is the best improvement in shifting so far.

I don't know; I've had a C's in my crx for the past 5 years or so, with about 65k on it, and have no issues.
I think that part of the problem with ss's is that people now think that they can jam the shifter, which always ***** something up. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I'm at about the same. I've put about 70,000 on mine with a Neuspeed shifter and haven't had problems with the synchros. As a matter of fact, I just removed the transmission with 165,000 miles on it because in the input shaft bearing was going bad. It still didn't have Synchro problems. Bad drivers kill synchros more than short shifters.
As far as going back to stock, I have one of each (as stock civic and a civic with a short shifter). I feel like I'm rowing a boat with the stock unit.
As for the original question, as well as checking the shifter bushings, check your tranny mount bushings. The trans could be moving around on you. Maybe you're just getting used to it (I doubt that, but who knows) and it doesn't feel short anymore.

short shifters do not shorten a tranny's life, the driver does.
punk.
HoMoCo FoLife, Have you anything intellegent to say at all?? Maybe when you get your learners permit, you can drive to AutoZone and buy you an ACP short shifter, I hear it shaves a full second off the ET.
I'll outdrive your *** with my "stock" shifter anyday.

this came up like a million times before...
but ss dont kill your synchros, drivers do, most people dont know how to handle the new shifter and their cluctch at the same time, no coordination, thats what kills synchros, not short shifters

you know you sound like the kinda guy/car that i'd throw RICE at when i see it on the street

in my experiences...i did a b16 swap in my hatch, and used a DC shifter. the placement of the motor and tranny w/ hasport mounts and the shifter action with hasport linkage is not a "perfect factory fit." there is a little quirkyness to it..a short shifter amplified these problems and made my car very difficult to drive. i switched back to the stock shifter and it was much more manageable.
you know what would shave a full second off your time....PAINT STRIPPER! all that interior paint and trim gets heavy.
