well, neither is a ex, but those are the only 2 6th gen civics that came with some type of vtec set up.

Yep more than vtec is involved. Compression for example. Better IM. Better exhaust manifold.

True, but I don't really think a Y8 is that much better than a Y7 anyway. Not as a stock motor at least.
But yeah, if Honda sold hatches in an EX trim I do believe they would have sold well.

I would kill for my car to have come factory with a y8 motor, OE paint matched trim, pw, pl, and a sunroof.

Eran and I have thought about making a daily driver EX hatch before. We'd want a manual white '99-'00 (since those are the only years hatches came in white in the US) DX hatch already with power steering and A/C.
I think we can make a stock moonroof work. Put in a Y8, power doors (windows and locks), tweeters, maybe paint the trim eventually and slap some EX steelies and hubcaps on.

^^ great, we can use my car as the platform. It's Tafetta white and hella clean. Already has the y8 transmission, ps, and a/c, and lock actuators.

We're thinking a completely different route than than modifying things to function like an EX. We're talking about a 100% stock-functioning car. Complete wiring changeover for power options, utilizing a factory moonroof with factory wiring and roof skin (possibly from Europe). If we ever do it, it's going to be a rather extensive project. We basically need a perfect hatch to start with, and a complete EX donor car (rear/side impact would be perfect), plus parts from a couple other hard-to-get things.
Down to every last friggin' detail, it will be an EX in every aspect other than chassis.

Baby Jesus cries all the time. He's a baby.
And the only reason Jesus would be crying is because of how BEAUTIFUL of a design it is
