Pioneer Experts Needed: iPod Freeze
So I picked up the DEH-P590IB from Pioneer with iPod control functionality:
I am using the 6G iPod mini (4th gen) and it keeps freezing when playing certain files. Here's what I know:
1. Have initiated "restore" on the iPod mini (twice) and confirmed latest firmware is active.
2. All music plays on the mini without error before being connected to the DEH-P590IB head unit. Most music files are ripped from the original CD or downloaded from the iTunes store. The iPod mini will only freeze during connection, or after a connection was established.
3. The error clears after performing a system restore or hard reset (menu + center key). The error will resume once connection with the DEH-P590IB is re-established.
Is anyone else having similar problems or heard of this before? Maybe a defective unit. Any other diagnostics I can do? Thanks in advance.

if i remember correct the last pioneer training meeting i was at, the rep and techs said it was designed for 5th gen ipods. also i have seen those cables be bad brand new out of the box. i have that same unit in one of my cars. good choice.
That might be it. We tried the i-Pod on another deck and the same thing happened. Ironically, the website and manual say 3rd gen and up.

Alright found the problem. I'm VERY surprised this isn't more of an issue for Mac users....
Mac's iTunes are defaulted to rip CD's in AAC encoding... and many external i-Pod receivers won't process that format. By simply going to i-Tunes Preferences / Advanced you can change the import format. I used MP3 which has worked on the last few CD imports.
Anyway, hopefully someone else will find this useful in the future.

I've had a problem with this same deck being able to control my 4th gen 20G ipod.
When I plug it in, it plays everything fine, as long as i control it from the ipod. You just can't control it on the actual deck. On the deck, it just says "ready". I've talked to tech support and they just say to update the ipod firmware. It's definately up to date though and still not working.
My girlfriends newer ipod nano however, works just fine with it.
Any ideas?
