window tinting
Just wondering how hard is it to do a DIY window tints.
i was wondering because i want to do a 30- 35 percent tint on my Atomic blue lx. Nothing dark because we get tickets here for front tints. But a few friends have 35 and didn't get a ticket yet. And i th ink the car would look a lot better

In Missouri its 35% for legal. I guess that is legal in IL too, not sure. I have 35% on mine. It looks good, its not too dark for night driving. BUT, I would recommend getting it done professionally. It is hard to keep the bubbles out, and for the new cars with the tiny dots around the top of the windshield and back window, and really around all the windows, its just better to let someone knowledgeable to do it for your. Its worth the cash to get the right appearance! Long reply, but Ive seen DIY tint on a lot of cars, and it just never turns out right.
check the sticky for pics....lots of people have 30-35% tint on their cars.

as for DIY...i believe it is fairly simple to do. my friend did it on his car but eventually hated it and had it done professionally.
i say pay the $150-200 or whatever it might cost you and get it done right

im acually certified in laying/making vinyl graphics.... yeah, certified. wierd.
anyways, you can mess up vvvvvvvvery easy.
trick is to fill a spray bottle with water, and put a few drops of soap in it. just a little. and spray the window lightly. than lay the tint and smooth it outwards with the little plastic squeegie thing.
the water/soap gets helps the bubbles out when smoothing it out. its fairly hard if you never done it befor. i fucked up a couple times in the class.....

i agree 100% you can mess up very easy and fast, do your self a favor and go to a pro shop i was in the tint biz for a bit (stoped due to moving house) and so far changed my mine about tinting cars. in some cases you may end up paying more then the acutall pro job of the tint why? simple the dots on the rear glass (frit) dot matrix needs to be sanded down to a certain point involving steel wool , touch a bit on your ant and you f@$k so do your self a favor and have it done right that way if they messed up they end up paying for whatever they damge. stick with llunar. As far as factory oem well really facotry oem tint can be good or bad/ bad? they just will take the car to a tint shop and you end up paying them for the steal price, good? if the tint is added between the middle of the layers to seal the tint therefore if that happens then you got "true factory tint" then from there you can go darker
but yeah the warranty part on a good pro tint shop is usualy lifetime also think again to the cost of the tint purchase having proper tools taking your time etc etc lol you know what i mean just take the car to the tint shop

35% Some angles you can see right through it, some you can't.

tinting is by far one of the most tedious and difficult things. You can mess up easily and if there is ANY type of wind you'll get tiny *** little dust particles that you wont see untill your done with the job. Even the best have probs. So I wouldn't suggest DIY at all. You'll end up killing yourself the first time you try it.
for the guy with the blue civic dont use windex or any window cleaning product, just use water. this is the reason why tint tends to break and if you havnt used any cleaning products then your tint sucks .... even window cleaners that claim safe for tinted windows ... dont use 'em just pure water

all of the dealerships around me use an independent shop to tint. I just went directly to the independant shop and saved some $$$'s

thats what i asked/ said that now in days most dealerships just take the damn car to a tint shop, and charge up 2x or more then it should cost. **** IF **** it was factory tinted like say 2 glasses in between a layer of tint, Then its 100% worth it cuz over that you can still tint with tint shop. and yes i know you can tint over a tint but best method is factory glass with tint + more tint inside the glass

I rarely if ever wash the inside of my windows, they never need it, and I'm not a moron.
Tint doesn't suck, but the pic does. But, it illustrates what I was trying to say.

Damned if I remember...the guy at the shop is like 100% French, the only reason I knew how to pay them is it's the same shop that does all the show cars around here and somebody else told me haha. It's non metallic tho, I kinda like my radio reception for the ride to work in the morning.

Formula One is good stuff too. Thier ceramic tint is great. I had it on 97 Accord for 4yrs and it didn't fade or change colors one bit. Dark looking in but clear as day looking out. So I decided to go with it on my si.
The only stuff that fades are the dye/metal tints like limo tint etc

alto F1 is good it belongs to gila and other brands ** I ** think llumar is F1 i know theirs a website i just cant find it

I won't cry if I have to replace it in 5 years, not like it's a lot of money. I was actually gonna try to replace all the glass anyway with factory-style tints. Custom glass places down the street are always good
lol yeah its only 200 or so but man if i could do factory (real factory) that has the glass ------ tint layer------ glas then do aftermarket tint then damn that would be a good tint setup
can you please take pix of front windshiled ? i wanna see how 50% looks what brand did you get? can you do against light reflected and dark ? and fianly can you see fine in day or night
I will get some pics up for ya'... The tint shop took pictures for their portfolio but I didnt get copies...
Driving at night is alright, obviously it stops some light from coming in but nothing major... The first night or two was difficult because the tint was still really milky and hadent dryed up yet...
I will find out what brand I had put on... It was a good brand I know that for sure, lifetime warranty... It keeps the car way cooler on really hot days, I almost never run my a/c on full cold unless I am first turning it on and trying to cool the car off quick...
