Default Red on the Fit

I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself to the Fit forum.

The girlfriend just came home with a red Fit S last night. We picked it over a Yaris and it's replacing an 11 year old Saturn that we got 350 bucks for trading in.

Does the red on the Fit still fade like the red has in previous years or have they changed the paint? I realize it may be too new for those problems to have shown up at all, but just curious if anyone has any idea.

I'll add that I'm also skeptical about the "monitoring your oil" system they have. I think that I'm just going to be changing over to synthetic and changing it every 6k like I would be doing normally instead of depending on the car to monitor it for me.

This is my first new car, so any advice on the "break in" process. I know to drive it easy, but did you guys schedule the first oil change at 3k or before then?

The Red will fade with years.

Anything red, a stop sign, a red car, red bike (that's always exposed to the sun) , etc.. woll fade with years.

The red have difficulty with the UV.

I work in the sign industrie and the Red is always fading after 6-7 years

Don't do your first oil change until the maintenance minder comes on at 15% oil life left which will be between 6,000 and 7,000 miles.

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic. Honda has put something in the factory oil that needs to stay in there as long as possible to fully bond with the engine components.

Mine didn't hit 15% until 6,600 miles. It was over 13,000 for the second service and it's at 19,000 now and still at 40% and the oil still looks real good.

Honda uses a synthetic blend but if you prefer full synthetic that's up to you but the factory oil plays an important part in how long your engine will last.

Honda knows what they are doing.

Give it a thousand or two then don't be afraid to stretch its legs. An engine is never more perfect than the day it was made. Wind the RPM's up just don't keep it there for long times at first. Breaking it in means thru all the RPM range not just the lower range.

When you go to accelerate to HWY speeds and you hit around 3500 RPM's you'll feel the VTEC kick in. At least in the MT you do, I don't know about the AT. Sweet.

Have fun and congrats on your new Fit.

Keep the new oil in there until you get your maintenance light at 15%. After that, you can run which ever oil you please

Honda's manual says 600 miles is the break-in period. I don't see why they'd lie about that.

Hope your girl enjoys her Fit

Feel VTEC on a 1.5L SOHC? I'm not sure about that. I can barely feel anything until 5,000rpm
