i know EXACTLY what you are speaking of. Its not just a notchy feeling. It's an actual CLUNK. I have no idea what it is, but it does it everytime i put it into first briskly. If I ease it into first, it will not do it.

it's normal. I think it's newtons 3rd law.
the input shaft is allready moving. Like when you JUST put the clutch in...and it stops moving when you engage a gear
every manual car i've ever owned or driven has done it.

Wow, OP thanks!
Its funny how many of us kept quiet about this issue. It has always irked at me in the back of my mind, but i never really had any interest to ask about it.

i have owned 5 manual cars and none of them have done this except for my S2K. my ITR had never done this nor did my Supra. Thats why it is just kinda weird to me.

Yea this guys right. When you have the clutch out in neutral the input shaft is spinning with the motor. When you clutch in and put it in first while the shaft is still spinning it, first gear will engage and try to move the car, which will only go so far as to turn the drive shaft a little. What you hear is the slack in the shaft being taken up. Try to wait a couple seconds before putting it in gear after putting the clutch in and you'll see it doesn't do it. This is because the input shaft isn't moving fast enough to really jerk the drive shaft.
