4th gen Hood dampers! WOOT!
While combing through the internet, I have not found 1 person who has successfully jimmy rigged some Hood dampers that actually sat FLUSH with the fender of a 4th gen prelude, most likely this is because most 4th gen owners are broke as *****, and that's why they don't have a 5th gen, granted at the time I purchased my car I was also broke. So I took it among myself to get the job done!
Parts used:
ebay prelude hood damper ball mounts(The whole kit did not fit, the struts were too thick to fit in the rain gutter)
Tein RSX hood dampers
2 misc nuts
2 misc washers
First off I had to trim some my carbon fiber hood off to fit these ghetto ebay hinge mounts on, I also had to use slightly longer hood bolts due to the extra plate making the hinge thicker. I also slapped a big washer on there cuz, I think it helps it hold together better. Now take note, I wasted alotta money $85 on the ghetto ebay dampers that included these hinge adapters, but I'm pretty sure you can slice and dice the RSX adapters to fit nicely into our preludes

Second of all, I had to relocate the fender bolt so that it was more outward towards the fender so it wouldn't hit my hood when I tried to close it. Now to do this you need to drill a hole just through the thin metal piece that holds up the fender, stick the nut on the other side and screw it down, u will now notice that the ball thingy sticks up too high. You are going to take the bolt out and trim a few threads off the bottom of the bolt so it sits lower. The end result should look like this, I would recommend drilling the hole closer up to the original bolt because as of now, my hood opens up TOO much and I have to get on my tippy toes to reach it to close, but I for one am not gonna drill another hole in my fender to fix this, im fine as is :D :

Welp thats it for the small modifications I had to do to get these to fit, now alls you got to do is pop the dampers in and marvel at your accomplishments.
Now for the money shots:
Wowzers, my hood actually closes ALL THE WAY, moohahhaha! No ghetto fender gap for me sirs!:bigthumb:

here's a far shot, notice how high the hood opens, if you are 6 ft tall then u can relocate the fender bolt where I did, for you shorter people, relocated it closer to the original bolt.

And this last shot is merely showing off my sweet new engine bay, I added some stuff too it like Neuspeed Strut bar, NGK blue spark plugs, DC sports oil cap, Type R valve cover, and a carbon fiber spark plug cover, and last but certaintly not least Mugen Reservoir socks(+30whp! or at least it should, thats how much each sock friggin cost me
!)

Oh and also, I am quite confident these will work for stock hoods too, the RSX dampers are friggin strong, maybe too strong, I have to struggle a bit to begin closing the hood, or maybe its because I relocated the fender bolt too high. If you use civic or integra dampers, you may have a smoother operating system by relocating the fender bolt way up.
I would like to thank the following people for giving me ideas and confidence to make this work:

On further investigation, RSX hinge adapters WILL NOT WORK, If you use the concept of the fender bolt relocation, civic or integra dampers should be able to fit with some cutting and watnot
Did you try RSX dampers? they have the extensions to make the hood open more, and the higher your hood opens, the less weight it has to hold. I struggle to close my hood because at full openning the pistons are quite stiff. Try relocating the fender bolt up and outward so that the pistons lie straighter in the rain gutter and so your hood opens more, there is a little metal blocker bolted onto drivers side hinge that prevents the hood from opening to its full potential.

I have had mine done for a while now...even made a quick how-to thread.
The hood closes fine and they also hold it up well and at a good height.

Oh, crap how did I miss that?!
Sorry man, and thanks for the credit.
Glad you got yours working, it is soooooooo worth it when you can just pop your hood and it stays up by itself.

Hey tony! Pretty dope job you did on the dampers. I have some issues I hope you can address. I bought some ebay cf carbon fiber dampers. The issue is that the dampers are WAY too stiff. When I installed them my hood was flexing and I couldnt get myself leave it on.
How long is the rsx damper?

Where did you attach them? If they are too stiff you might be able to move them down on the hood(i.e. down when the hood is up), to decrease the leverage the have.
Sorry for the late replies, I work All day long hours for the cable company

You have the same crap I got at first, the Tein RSX dampers are a TINY bit longer and much thinner. There aint no way you will get your hood to sit flush with those carbon fiber hood dampers, they are too thick, if you look closely they are just regular black dampers wrapped in a thick layer of carbon fiber. What I did was I reused the mounting hardware from the ebay dampers and just swapped in the Tein RSX.

I mixed some ebay prelude specific damper mounts with the Tein RSX mounts so if you don't wanna buy 2 sets of dampers and use parts from each one I would recommend just buying some civic or integra dampers, and use the fender bolt relocation technique. I lined up the RSX hinge adapter and there is no way those will line up, the ball sticks out way way too much.
