Honda parts online in Canada- Help!
Ok, long story short:
96 EX-R (Canadian), A/T, V-TEC
I cleaned the EGR ports, and it ran like crap (stumbling idle, etc: realized the EGR valve wasn't closing)- pulled the EGR valve and it leaks like a sieve (can't hold any liquid, it just passes right through the valve port on the bottom). Got a used EGR valve from a yard- car ran great, until I was on the highway for a bit, and slowed down and it tried to die again. So, I bought a new valve (to the tune of 170 CDN) and replaced. Drive test- same problem.
Started diagnosing- at idle after driving, vacuum is present at the EGR valve. Disconnected the connector from the EGR lift solenoid, and the problem is still there- SHEW! This means I have a leaky lift solenoid, not a defective ECM. Thank God.
Now- call the dealer, they want 180 CDN for that stupid valve! I've seen some places in the states that have it for around 90 US (Exchange rate is good now), but I run into the old duty and taxes thing when shipping it here to Canada. I did try a lift solenoid and EGR vacuum control valve from the yard, but it was worse with these guys- it died right away. So I figure 11 year old part sitting in a wrecking yard could have some problems. I want to get a new one.
Any Canadian Accord owners out there that know of a place to get these kind of parts in Canada on-line? I've searched and searched, and I can't find anybody that has these kind of parts. I want to get this fixed so I can get a bit better gas mileage and have a smoother running ride!
Any help is appreciated.

I use Auto Parts Online Canada all the time. Prices are a bit cheaper than the dealer on some things. Any purchase over $75 and Regular Ground Canada Post shipping is free...have your part within 3-5 days usually. 5 days for me if the part has to go cross country from BC. But for the most part the parts are shipped out of ON and take 3 days.
The APOC price for a 96' F22B1 VTEC EGR valve that I found was $153 CDN shipped.

Were your in Montreal have you looked into maybe having a US part shipped to a holding facility in a boarder town in NY or Vermont. Then go and pick it up yourself? Sometimes that can be cheaper. You will still have to pay duty but it will save you the brokerage fee.

I'd love to use APOC, but they didn't list the part on their site. Maybe I should give them a call.
Well, at least I only paid 15 over for the EGR valve.. even though it wasn't the real problem! Kicking myself I didn't run through a bit of diagnosis before just assuming that the wrecking yard part was sticking.
I'll try and call APOC. Thanks!

Called APOC- they don't have the EGR lift solenoid. I'm trying to track down an aftermarket part- I have the part number from Standard and AC Delco, seeing if someone can get it for me for less than the bloody dealer price.
Other than APOC the other places I use are the usual car parts stores, and around here the dealership is cheaper most times for 96 Accord Parts.
Good luck with your hunt.

Oh sheez- Ok, saved myself THAT 200.00 for the EGR lift solenoid: I bought this car used, and none of the EGR was working before 'cause the ports were completely blocked. Then, when I cleaned em up, it died at idle all the time- I think I said all of this. Anyway, new EGR valve is in place, same problem. Ran with the connector off of the lift solenoid so I could drive the car. Tested everything- voltages are great, but the lift solenoid valve is still holding vacuum at idle. Run through the diagnostics in the FSM- thinking that I need to replace this guy.
Then I start looking through the vacuum routings... and low and behold, some IDIOT who had the car before me had the lines backwards going to/from the solenoid and the vacuum control diaphragm! No wonder it was giving me hell- vacuum was going to the EGR valve constantly!!
Anyways, that was a cheap fix- and now I know more about Honda EGR systems than I care to..
