Cam gear tuning questions...
I have a 1990 CRX Si with a JDM B16 with Intake/Header/Exhaust Comptech Flywheel and STR cam gears. I have the timing set at 17 degrees I want to fine tune my cam gears but I dont know what is acceptable. Does any one have a similar setup? I just want to get a baseline to tune with. Thanks.
I have 98 JDM CTR intake cam with ITR 00-01 exhaust cam. I have Skunk2 gears,
and I have found that when I bias the exhaust cam to +4 degrees and as much as +3 intake, I get a good 2-6K jump in power. I have found that each tooth on the timing sprocket is 10.28 degrees. The Skunk2 gears although they read -5,+5 this is a 20 degree range at the crank. Meaning, +2,+2 is actually +4,+4 on the crank repectively. If anyone knows this, kudos... this was making holes in my vtec engagement point when I tried to make adjustments based on a 1:1 degree understanding. My car is set to +1.5 exhaust, +1 intake with a degree of mill and gasket compensation it is actually +2, +1.5 which is +4, +3 at the crank. I run my timing advance to the opening of the intake valve which at dead 0 on CTR intake cam is 18degreesBTDC. So, I add 3 and set to 21degreesBTDC. My car will bark the tires straight out of idle and run hard to 8K. I havent dynoed this setting yet, but I have no doubt that the car is the strongest it has felt yet.
