help w/ new 6 disk changer stock radio . . .
hey so i got a 6 disk changer out of a salvage yard for a good price so i took it. i called the local dealership to get a code for it and they couldnt find one for it but gave me a generic code that should work. i typed it in and it dose work but i can not put cd's into it. and when its on radio it bearly works. its fuzzy when all the way up and the volume is at a 3 of 10. the previous owner did have a system he took w/ him but left some wires. im wondering if that has something to do w/ my volume and quality?? what do i need to check? and this "generic" code could it be because he said it was probably stolen gave me a code to lock it up bassically???
its a rsx btw
thanks

ok, so you bought a 6 disc out of a salvaged rsx? now how hard does a rsx have to be hit to be totaled? now i wonder what that does to the tiny mechanics inside of a changer.
youve lost your mind. 90% of the cd players that come from salvage yards dont work. either the car got spattered bad enought that the radio is damaged also, or water gets in it from windows being down or busted out and rain getting in while its setting in the salvage yard. if your looking to get it fixed check here. http://www.unitedradio.com
As far as I know, Honda/Acura USDM cars do not have 'generic' codes. They either have a unique radio code, or they have none at all, like Accord/Element LX, etc.
How many digits was the code they gave you? Why couldn't they get the real one--is there no serial number on the bottom of this RSX deck? If you can get the serial number and and VIN off the totaled RSX, there should be no reason an Acura dealer can't retrieve the proper code for you: they're kept on a nationwide database.
I'm not as familiar with recent Acura stereo setups though... It's entirely possible they thought you were a jacker and gave you a lock-up code, but I think it's more likely the unit is just damaged. The in-dash 6 disc players have some little plastic gears that are not known for thier durability.
