Don't know, but since they cost the same, get 2.5"

USDM Mugen is 2.25", JDM Mugen is 2.5" (these sizes are approximate, collector sizes are actually measured in MM and are a little less than 2.5" and 2.25").

what about the mugen B pipe, cat? ? are they also 2.5 for the jdm spec mugen?
Mugen exhaust (b-pipe and muffler) is 60.5 MM. Both JDM and USDM have a smaller diameter section (56 MM) before the b-pipe resonator, which Mugen wanted there for some reason. If you order a JDM header, get the JDM exhaust as the b-pipe is longer and will make it easier to find a cat.

If you get a JDM header and exhaust, this shouldn't be necessary. Even highly tuned cars do not seem to be restricted by the Mugen setup (EP has 200+ whp).

Mugen header, Carsound cat, and Mugen exhaust will cost you a little over $2,000. If you want a setup that improves on the stock ITR exhaust system, but doesn't compromise quality or reliability, then yes, it is worth it. The Mugen components are beautifully made and it is the smoothest and quietest exhaust system on the market, which is a plus if there are a lot of cops in your area.

If you are going to spend $2000 for an exhaust system I'd go with a real 2.5" system like SMSP or HyTech. The Mugen header performed the worst in the great header test, it's pretty much just a JDM ITR 4-1 and DC JDM 4-1 which you can buy for under $300. The Mugen exhaust is 60.5mm, 2.38" the same size as every other aftermarket exhaust out there. Neither their header or exhaust is anything special besides the twin-loop muffler. HyTech's twin-loop is even cheaper than the Mugen and uses larger piping. It's better to be informed than just buy from a big name brand thinking it's the best.

I don't know why Mugen uses a smaller 2.38" exhaust with their 2.5" header. My guess is it was NOT a performance decision, they just wanted it to bolt to the stock cat. If you have a nice big 2.5" collector the rational thing would be to match it with a 2.5" cat and exhaust for the best flow.

USDM headers have a 2.0" collector by the way.

The mugen header Im currrently running(and selling) is the USDM, 2.25 collector. Dynoed that with AEM intake at 178. Not sure how much difference there actually is with a 2.5 collector. Just thought Id let you know.
