Default H23 Vtec Setups

Ok recently I've acquired a complete H23A engine that has taken from a 92 prelude. The Engine was replaced with a H22A1 and now I have a complete non working h23A engine. I've completely taken it apart and am having the block machined and honed out so it will be able to run properly (I hope). I am in the process of buying a JDM h22 Vtec head and wanting to building a H23/H22 Frankenstein engine just because i can and i got nothing else to do and I hear that is a fairly good performance engine. I was wondering if people could post there H23/H22 Vtec setups, problems, suggestions so i can have an idea of what the best process and parts to use in this build. I've cruised a lot of the H23 Vtec treads and all the information is all jumbled i just want to have a tread with straight information no other side conversations so i can get my information straight and have this build go properly. Thank you for the help guys it will be much appreciated.

why don't you break it down. its hard to find a question in that paragraph, what are you looking for?

major problems would be rev happy ricers that spin bearings. get your **** balanced.

Hahaha.....hit the nail on the head! Rev Happy Ricers....say that 5 times fast!

Oil squirters I think thats a big issue when people plop the h22 head on the H23 block.

off the top of my head...

1. don't use the oil orfice in top of the h23 block
2. use h22 timing gears (cam + crank)
3. use h22 water pump
4. h23 manual tensioner parts can and IMO should be used
5. use h22 headgasket
6. complete h22 header
7. h22 intake mani and injectors
8. P13 ecu if stock
9. bend oil squirters slightly

In the past H23 vtec's I've built that haven't used the oil squirters I've noticed more wear on the sides of the pistons than there should be. I believe this is just due to the faster piston speeds of the added stroke and my "rev happy ricer foot" lol. In any case I think they are a good idea to use, especially on a street motor.

Or you can spend $1500 and get a real H23 vtec motor out of a JDM 97 accord. Comes with a h23bottom and H22 head stright from honda

Thats quite the good deal there considering I pay about $1100 for JDM H22A's.
I guess the only drawback to that setup would be the low compression at 10:1 IIRC

Dyno of my friends H23A VTEC
SR Intake
Greddy Header
2.5" Exhaust
Tuned with a VAFC2+P28ecu
Gotta love that torque curve!
Peak power isn't what an H22 is, but as you can see it doesn't matter.....
This is on a Dyno that a similarly modded H22 would make about 175/145...
