Apologies for the cross-posting but I already posted this in the wrong forum and it was suggested that I repeat it here....
My son wants to put bucket seats in his 2003 Honda Civic Hatchback and I was wondering what the implications of this are - particularly on the airbag system. If he uses a racing harness (which I have since been advised against) would this prevent the front airbags from working? Also would he need to do anything to deactivate the side airbags which would be redundant?

It has been suggested that using a harness vice the factory fitted seatbelt is dangerous unless the driver wears a helmet and the car has a roll cage - is it possible (and usual) to use a bucket seat with the factory seatbelts instead ?
