Default Very Bad Rattle - Subs...

I just upgraded my sound system, went from some no name pep boys subs and amp to a set of 10" Rockford P1's and some Alpine Amp. Its alot nicer sounding bass, alot louder too, and I think I shook something loose or something.

It sounds like its coming from the trunk or rear speaker panel/deck. Right behind me or something..

At first I thought it was just my speaker panels, so I took those off, and I could still hear the rattle.

Any idea what the rattle could be?

I figured this would be the best place to ask since you guys have the same car..

My 95 accord had 2 RF 12s. That car RATTLED like crazy from the rear. After some Dynomat. The difference was insane. Get you some dynomat.

Its mucho expensive, but it might be my only option.

Somone once said put a bunch of blankets in your truck, like stuff them in, comfortors work better, and it will help with the rattle, and make the bass sound better, is that true? Figured not, but it might be worth a try if anyone can confirm it.

Any other option besides dynomat? I saw that Ice Bold or whatever in the Audio FAQS but you have to order in LARGE amounts..

Off Topic - - I just had some mad Deja Vu when typing this messege..odd..

Never heard of the blanket trick, but cant be hard or cost anything to find out if it works. Give it a shot and let us know .

Dont know of any other manufacture other than dynomat. Im a sure they all serve the same purpose. And something is always better than nothing.

I am also running two RFPunch Stage1 10s, in my 99 Accord EX. I had the same rattling problem for the longest, couldn't tell if it was the entire rear deck rattling, or one of the back roof pillars.

Here's the solution I've found (and its a better sounding system setup at that). Set your lowpass for your subs at ~50hz, and have your 6x9s in your rear deck cut on at 50hz. For the longest, mostly to help out my 6x9s, I was running my subs at 80hz and 6x9s at 80hz (low pass and high pass, respectively). And a LOT of the material in the rear half of an Accord apparently has a natural resonance of 50-80 hz I tweaked on my gain and equalizer, etc, and I am now running my speakers divided at 50hz, and almost all of the rattle in my car is gone. My 6x9s are screaming in the mids, and my subs hurt my stomach, and there is barely any rattle, and only in songs with high bass.

Otherwise, you can buy some dynomat and stuff it under the rear deck panel, behind the roof pillars back there, and/or under the insulation on the underside of your decklid (if you have insulation there).

Just somethin' to try out

I tightened every screw I could find, it helped..a little.

I am still tweaking my amp, it was a used amp from my friend, and all the letters are worn off on the back, so I cant really tell what I am seeting the crossover at..

How do I change the frequency of my speakers to 50hz or whatever you said? I am an car audio noob for the most part.

My system includes

Some random sony deck - lots of eq features
Front - 6.5" Infinity Refrence
Rear - 6.5 Polks not sure what ones

I have a 4 channel amp, so I think I bridged them is the term?

It still rattles really bad, I am going to try the blanket trick..

but I cannot for the life of me figure out what is rattling inside the car.The rear of my car rattles really bad, its not the trunk it sounds like its under the car rattling or something, no idea.

make sure your trunk bumper stoppers looks like rubber corks fit really snug when the trunk is closed. it should be on the edge of the trunk lid on the right and left side.

make sure your jack is secured and wrap a towel around it so it wont rattle. also wrap your wheel tools where the spare is so that they dont rattle

also, there should be a bunch of metal rods, looms etc... make sure you stuf some foam or something so those dont rattle.

also, make sure the latch hooks on nice and tight to the trunk lid.

check out http://www.secondskinaudio.com

their damplifier is the best stuff on earth.

to change the frequency you can do it on your amp and possibly your hu. should be a **** for highpass and low pass.

Hmm, I did not think about my jack or anything, thanks for the pointers, I will check everything out tonight after work!! It sounds good inside my car, I can still hear a slight rattle, but outside my car its LOUD, it sounds good when I am coming up the road, but as I am passing all you can hear is my trunk rattle.

It'll be tough to completely get rid of trunk rattle.. you DID just put 20" of mechanical sound wave generators in your trunk.

I was referring to setting your highpass on your speakers in the rear deck, should be able to do that from your head unit. And your highpass and lowpass should be the same so that you don't "lose" any frequency.

maybe your rattle is from your license plate. I wedged a sponge in there and screwed it back on, worked great.

I have newspaper behind it, and I am 100% positive its not my lincense plate rattling.. it sounds like its under the trunk, near the gas tank is the main rattle.. who knows though.

I can change the db levels on my deck it has options for low, mid, and high. I can do +/- 10 db each way.

I have it set at -3 low +4 mid and -1 high and it sounds good. Should I lower the lows or what? Is that what you are taking about when you talk about the lows and highs?

Low pass filter and high pass filter... they limit the sound frequency to certain speakers... a low pass filter lets only frequencies at or below the number to come through... for example... a low pass filter set at 50hz only lets sound at or below 50hz play through your subs... or a high pass set at 80hz lets only sounds 80hz or higher in frequency play.

Basically, it keeps your subs from trying to produce highs, or your 6.5s from trying to growl. And if its possible, I would have your subs running at 50hz, because 80hz is going to bring a lot more natural resonances of the car in to play.

Hmm, I have no idea how to change the frequencies..

On my amp I can change the cross over, the filter, and the gain. thats all. i have the cross over at like half way around 200 and the gain about half way too..
