Default VTEC HITS?

Hey does anyone know when Vtec kicks in a D15B!!! Prob. is that i think my chipped p28 has B16 maps on it not really sure Anyways how do you know when Vtec kicks in!? Would a bad ground not allow Vtec to kick in and it will give you a CEL? Im asking cuz i dont know what to look for when it comes to Vtec kicking in and i think maybe my ground is bad but have no CEL!! Any input is greatly app.

supposed to be around 5000rpm. But it's not loud enough on those motors to hear for sure.

my d15b kicks in at around 5200 my ecu isn't chipped though and it's not loud enough on d series to hear it kick in it usually clicks but you'll feel it when it does hit.

as for the ground i don't think so it should kick in as long as the motor is warmed up and there is enough oil

edit: there are other reasons why it wouldn't but those are the basic ones that people will tell you to check

A bad ground would probably not allow the engine to run, let alone hit VTEC. What's your oil pressure like? I know it may sound elementary, but the ECU won't allow VTEC to engage if it doesn't reach proper operating temperature. Do you have cooling problems?

Is it B16 or D15?? Does it matter!!!? I have Autotechnic revolution intake,OBX header.2.5 catback, msd external coil kit, so im guessing maybe i should be able to hear it? Does anyone know if a bad ground on OIL Press. Sensor can cause a CEL!!! I mean the one that goes with Vtec Sol.

you will hear it on a b series but not a d series, d series kick in anywhere from 5k-5500

b16 is at 5800 i believe but i'm not positive on that one maybe 5600

When it comes to ground i mean the ground from the oil press. sen. since i did a swap i have to wire it my self!!!! My q is will that cause a CEL (bad ground on Oil Press. Sen.)

it kicks in at 5200 on p08 ecu that originally comes with that motor. By no means it will be loud enought to hear (especailly with 2.5" exhaust, since vtec is only on intake side). Bad ground on oil pressure switch will throw a CEL. If you got bad ground to the motor your motor will run like complete ****. There is no ground running to vtec solenoid it uses engine ground. There is a solenoid wire coming out of the ecu that's running to it. Usually when vtec won't kick in car will feel like **** anywhere past 5500rpm. I used to rev a d15b to 8,000 rpm back in the day, couple times ended up at 9000rpm just by not looking. That motor is really rev happy due to the stock cam that's in it so if I were you rev it 8,000rpm and if it feels like **** prolly vtec is not kicking in.

what is it b16b?

yea c1 is pretty horrible, 4.5k vtec 6.5k secondaries. Change the intake matifold on c1 and run stock ecu your car will just drone out at 4.5k and not go anywhere until like 5.5-6k. It's pretty funny, really loud but not going anywhere.
