Well the numbers really dont mean anything to me.

I searched a few discussion threads but I really didn't find the info I was looking for. Im in the market for coilovers, I found some ksports on ebay for a decent deal and the spring rates are as listed:
• Spring Rate Front: 10kg/mm - 560lb/in
• Spring Rate Rear: 6kg/mm - 336lb/in

Ok, so what does this mean, what kind of ride should I expect. I like stiff rides, I don't want a bouncy ride.

 

that seems kind of extreme in the front. that's a pretty big difference between the front and the back, i have my springs coming later this week and i ordered 400 front and 450 back.

 

hm, what do the actual pounds per inch mean? how does it affect your car

 

it means the amout of weight needed to compresss the spring by one inch. so the higher the spring rate, the more mweight it takes to compress the spring. therefore, the higher the spring weight for a light car, tiwoudl be a stiff ride.

the diameter of the actual spring will also determine the stiffness of the spring.

yes it does help. so to get a proper spring rate on your car you need to know the weight front/back

If you don't want a "bouncy" ride, then all you need to do is make certain that your shocks can adequately control your spring rates. "Bouncy" is just underdamped, specifically on the rebound. Really, you could run 900lb/in rear rates, and not bounce, if you have enough shock.

However, that 900 lb/in spring will give you one hell of a stiff ride, and probably not be streetable at all for most people.

I'm going to assume an EJ8 is a Civic (probably completely wrong here, and too lazy to look it up). In which case, 560/336 should be stiff, but drivable on the street. The rear rate seems to effect the ride quality more than the front. I daily drive 400/400 rates on my Integra, and while stiff, its not unbearable.

 

Yeah your right, it's a 2000 civic. Thanks for your input. I went ahead and ordered the ksports (not through ebay) got them a lot cheaper right here in the honda-tech sponsorship market place. They are 36-way adjustable dampening which I assume is shock adjusting so hopefully I can get the right setup. I'll have them on in a couple weeks I'll let everyone know how they are.

 

S2s are 550s in the front. I like them, my 95 LX weighs ~2300lbs

I had 2 sets of coilovers, S2 and GC so I made a hybrid. I am using the skunk 2 fronts and GC rears, and it rides awesome.

i just ordered Ground Controls with 380/380 and gonna use my bilstein sport shocks, seeing that youve used 400/400 on your integra and you like it makes me happy. their about to come in the mail this week


As for Ebay coilovers with those rates, i say i wouldnt purchase that crap, no way, no how! go with some ground controls or quality springs.

 

they weren't ebay coilovers they were ksports. I'd give them better credit.

well, we'll find out..

The last setup I had on this car was omni full kit and it was ok handled great but I didn't really like how it rode down the street. Before that on my DC2 I had skunk2's and they felt like the omni's. But I think the shocks were starting to go on them both near the end.
