D15B8 Buildup!?!?!?! ALMOST DONE!
If you just wanna know whats up, Skip the next Paragraph.
I'd like to start off by Thanking everybody that has helped this project so-far, Including but not limited to; The boys at Honda-Tech.com for explaining to my dumb-*** what parts I needed to use to make ANY power out of one of the lowest HP blocks honda has ever manufactored, Ryan Ango (syP), Paul Fielder (LedZepp) for lugging my car back out to Plano and taking good care of it while it was in Pauls possesion, Zack Vaughn (Father Time) For dealing with that goddamn hood latch cable, Kyle Coglanises *Definatly mispelled, but he's definatly a goon anyways* and George Meyerholz *GF's Father who has turned MANY wrenches in his day, and got off of work, and literally attacked my car with tools.
Last night I finally got my the parts together to get my little build-up project going for my 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback. A little bit of Background on the car is this is the car my Mother and Dad bought BRAND NEW off the lot back in 92 with the money my mother had recieved from her father passing away before they divorced, and was the car that picked me up on weekends for Countless years. My father claimed bankruptcy back in 05 and the IRS had been after the Hatch for nearly 2 years now, and he gave me the car in late 06 so it could stay in the family, and the government couldn't take it...
The car is the bottom of the line CX Hatchback, Manual everything D15B8, 70hp, only feature is A/C. Last night we tore the 8 Valve head off the motor, Replaced a rusted-out door, Replaced a broken hood-latch cable, Added a working Tachometer and Speedometer, Put a D16A6 SI Camshaft into a 16 Valve Honda head *With a D16Y7 Cam Gear* and Adjusted its lash *Paul and George rocked this out* *P06 Manual ECU as well* so ALL thats left is to pickup a Used intake mani off a 92-95 Civic DX/LX an Intake Mani Gasket, and new head Bolts and it will all come together!!! I got this build from a few assorted old threads from this site, If anyone on here has done this swap before has any words of guidance, or if I have forgotten anything, PLEEEASE tell me now before we slap the head on the block!
Again, I'd like to thank everyone who helped, and here are the pics of the Tear/down and swap progress. I will post Dyno numbers and Track numbers when I hit the Dyno/Track.
Also, if anyone else wants to try this, I will make a write-up on it once its finished with More pictures.

uhhh, Dont know why your messing with such a shitty motor, but I would of done a mini me and turbo'd it. You would of hit some good numbers on that setup...
You might hit 110 hp... maybe
You might hit 110 hp... maybe
The reason why I chose that head is because this block can't handle any serious numbers anyways, so the whole swap has cost me less than the price of the new door I put on the car. Once this motor Pops I will do an LS turbo swap, but this swap requires NO tuning, No custom wiring, and very little money so its a good starter project for someone new to the Honda Scene.
Forgot to mention, I guess it was assumed, this is just a D15B7 Head.

Well to be honest with you... The mini me swap is just really plug and play. My civic was a 92 so it was already wired for vtec.
All I did was this
Remove head, one oil jet, clean clean block
Install a d16y8 head gasket
Install the d16z6 head
Install the new timing belt (D16z6)
Switch the DX harness to SI
Switch the ecu to p28
Add oil, coolant
After that i made sure everything was timed right and she was good to go
Made 134hp
for less then 250 bucks for all the parts

I hear what your saying, but I only really spent about $125 on everything, and I am just getting my feet wet, it will get a turbo LS down the road. I have an 07 Focus as a Daily driver, so really Brakes and suspension are next on the to-do list, then Body work, THEN a more serious HP motor.

I think it will be a fun little car. I hope to take it autocrossing as this should be a pretty reliable combination. *once I upgrade the Brakes/suspension/wheels of course... I will need to look into a diffrent tranny later.
That car looks like it's worth it's weight in scrap metal. The interior, exterior, and motor are trashed.
Slap your parents for treating their brand new car like garbage for 15 years.

I know, It was my fault for doing that, it was the garage floor when I first brought the head inside the garage, We put it ontop of newspaper, ontop of Cardboard immediatly afterwards *like the 8 valve head is* Its not really a rebuild, this is good for a bit more kick than this poor CX has ever had, and with the D16A6 Cam and the Horrid CX Cat being gone it will be good for a bit north of 110, I hope to get 120-125 with a bit more work *I know thats optimistic*. Anything outside of this little headswap will be a LS Swap, but like I said before, I'm getting my feet wet, so we will see how this goes, and if it Pops, I go onto the next thing.
Motor is DEFINATLY not trashed, the car only has 97K on it, the 8 valve head is in fantastic shape. Car is trashed on the outside *Specfically the bumpers, rest of the car is straight* because it was parked in the city for the past 8 years of its life.
There ARE no interior pictures, so thats just kind of stupid to say...

I can only assume that since your entire head is chocolate brown, your engine bay is calcified and rusted beyond repair, and your paint is in some of the worst condition I've ever seen .... I can only assume the interior isn't far behind.

I popped the Headgasket back in decemeber and replaced it *Hence the bad oil color in the 8 valve block*, "Judging by that 1 foot portion of your front bumper your paint is in horrible condition" are you retarded or something? Its the front bumper of a stickshift car that parked in the city, ITS GONNA BE SCUFFED.... And most people here knows what happens when you assume things, "You just make an *** out of U and Me" This is just a thread showing a project I was working on, Way to be a flamming *******!

I drive a stick shift in the city .... my bumper doesn't have a scratch on it? Your bumper, on the other hand, looks like it was painted with a rattle can and no primer. It's patchy, faded, and scratched up. It's like it played bumper-cars for 8 years.
I'm not trying to bring you down, but you're trying to defend abuse of a car as normal wear and tear. Good for you for rebuilding it, but your parents trashed that car. Just deal with the cold hard truth.

I used to park my car in the city for two years and it was NEVER damaged in anyway.
I didn't get so much as a scratch on it there.
Don't feel bad. It was a free car. It's not like you could control what someone else did with it.

lol might waswell what did a cx hatch run about 15 years ago 9k? lol
but the funny thing is he almost tried to brag about his project like were ricers that cant do anything, we're not your little 17 year old friends that hasnt done much more than a bolt on man, most of us here that your trying to flame have built motors worth more than 5 of your cars put together

It has been played bumper cars for 8 years, people backed in to it like 3 times a day, his apartment was street parking only, no way to avoid it. This really is quite normal wear and tear for a 15 year old city car in downtown chicago.
With all due respect my dad didn't take very well care of the car, thats why I'm doing this now as I figured it would be fun to keep it alive.
Please be a bit more polite though, you came on this thread like you were looking to pick a fight.

I Don't mean to brag, I'm just proud that I got a chance to get into the motor of this car... A cam and head swap isn't just a bolt-on so Thats why I'm proud its coming together.
I'm a Network Tech in Ottawa IL, *Started recently* so suddenly I have more income that I can play with.
And yes, I have the Window sticker, and the reciept from the purchase of the car, it was like $9,200 brand new

LOTS of work to go, but I'm willing to keep tearing into it like I did the motor.

well for a start you should be good... But Instead of a turbo LS look into getting a k20...
