Default Sensor on cylinder head

I have a 1993 civic lx and I was wondering about a sensor on my cylinder head. It is right behind a coolant passage elbow and looks like a knock sensor or a temperature sensor of some kind. It is single wire. The connector (or what seems like a connector) won't come off. Do I have to unscrew the sensor from the cylinder head to get it out?
