1995 EX Turbo - backfiring, feels like it is gonna die
I have not had a problem till today.
This car had 180k miles on it
We swapped the motor for another 1995 ex with a lot less miles.
Day after that we put the Apexi turbo on it and installed a new performance fuel pump on.
It has been running great since day one, no check engine, no nothing.
All of a sudden today, I was not even driving hard, it backfired. When this happened, I didn't even realize that it was me.
I parked the car for a couple hours and drove it again. After driving 2 miles I stopped and idled for about 3-4 minutes and while just idling, it felt like it was going to die, my air fuel gauge went to 10.0 (very lean) and the rpms kept going down. My check engine light then came on.
I tapped the gas to keep it at 1000 rpms so the car would not shut off and then drove off slowly. My air fuel was fluctuating between 10.0 and 18.1
I drove it 2 miles home and stopped. On the way home this time it backfired again, and now I knew it was me.
I let it sit for 8min and then it shut off (turbo timer shut it off). While it was idleing the rpms were at 1100 whereas usually they are at 750.
Please help me.
P.S.

Yes..Sounds like its running lean, and thats no good at all. You said you changed the fuel pump?check to see if everything is back the right place. What other Fuel management do you have? Often that's the problem.. by the way, what kind of fuel pump are you using? That might be helpful..also, check with the Turbo guys..ajn and a few others know plenty more than I do...or check out.
