Default Changing clutch - transmission stud bolt MUST be removed?

I am changing my clutch for the first time and the service manual (section 13-9 step 31) says to remove transmission stud bolt #11--a few steps before dropping the tranny.

Is this really necessary? I already got the transmission mount and mount bracket out. But of course am having difficulty pulling the stud bolt. The more I look at it, if I already have the mount out, do I need to pull this one stud bolt for any other reason?

it might aid in clearing the frame rail or radius rod when removing the trans from car. try to take the trans out without removing it. if its in the way take it out. if you dont have a stud removal tool just take two nuts and tighten them on the stud and take it out that way.

let me tell you firsthand...if you can get that stud out it will help a lot! it is a very tight fit trying to drop the trans out past the frame rail, that stud DOES get in the way...but mine wouldn't come off so I had a lot harder time getting the trans off.

well, i learned that the hard way. it sucked *** wrestling the trans out. i went ahead and took the stud bolt out for the reinstall. also, i think i am going to go with a hoist from up top. i tried to manhandle it and get it into place but i'm puss and it kicked my ***.

thanks for the tips fellas
