i have a b16 out of a del sol vtec, its the 94 to 97 engine.my vtec crossover is at 5800 rpms but my room mate that has the same moter in his car has his at 5200.what is the stock rpm for the crossover?
I have a JDM B16A SiR II and my crossover is at 5800. He has an ECU that has been chipped and vtec set at an earlier crossover OR is he using a VAFC or a vtec controller?

5.8k rpm vtec is a bit high,,, I thought the default was 4.4-4.8k rpm?

i dont think its that low,but i do wish it was around 5000 or 5200 but not if the ecu isnt going to give it the right amount of fuel
my room mates car is way faster then mine and the only diference is his car is 200 lbs lighter and his vtec comes on at 5200.maybe his ecu is dyno tuned.its a jdm moter that came with that ecu.mine is also a jdm moter but i dont know if the ecu i have is the one that came with the moter sence i didnt buy it.i just got the car with the swap already done

hey im planning on buying a ecu from phearable.net... i got b16a2 usdm.... and i would like to set the vtec in 5400, shift light at 8000, redline set on 9000(but im not gonna pass 8200 when driving) do u guys think 5400 for vtec good or ill set it back to 5700?
^ Good choice, I live in Tampa and so does the owner of Phearable.net. He's supposed to be one of the best around.
Also I have a 00 si, with a B16a2. Vtec crossover is exactly 5500rpms.

stock map for b16a2? so whats the vtec engagement point? i dont wanna set it higher that 5500... what i really like is its on 5200, is it bad for the engine? when i set the redlimiter to 9000 it wont hurt my engine ryt? as long i dont rev it more than 8200...
setting vtec higher or lower than stock on an internally stock engine can lead to a loss in power. it's fine at the stock point, wherever the hell it is since there are so many different answers in this thread.
Everyone has a different answer for this. Everyones tach is a little off. From what I know the VTEC crossover on a B16 happens at 5650. It looks like 5800 on the factory tach though because it's a bit off on every car that I have seen.
And to one of the posters that commented on VTEC being weak crossing over at 5200, it's not weak if it was tuned for that. If you look at dyno charts you can see a huge dip in power right before VTEC crossover. When you tune it right and lower the VTEC engagement point you will see a smoother better powerband and not see that loss in power. So even though it feels weaker it's actually faster.

when i finish my h23 vtec build im going to dino tune it and have vtec kick in somewhere around 5000,ill stick with 5800 untell then i guess
