Default Code 17 VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor (SEARCHED)

Ok, here is my set up.

1990 CRX Si
JDM B16a
Converted to OBD1 w/ rywire harness
Still has the speedo cable and in secure

So I dont have vtec. I researched a while back and someone mentioned that there is a wire from the back of the gauge cluster that goes to the ecu that tells the ecu when it is above 20mph, which will allow vtec to work. So I think that wire may be cut. What wire is it on the harness that plugs into the ecu? If its brown, then that wire is cut. Its the only wire cut on the whole harness and I cant find the wire that it will connect to. And also what color is the wire that plugs into the speedometer? I cant find it on the wire diagram. So some help would be great. Thanks a lot!!!!!!

well if you have a b16a which is a electric speedo, and you still have you cable speedo hooked up, doesnt that explain why you are getting a cel for your speedo? if you swapped out your electric speedo for a cable speedo like i did on the tranny, ( I used a 90-93 cable vss) you will still get a check engine light until you actually swap in a SiR guage cluster as far as i know

oh yea let me add that i didnt have any problems with my vtec either, i was a pw0 and my vtec kicks in at 5000-5100 although i cant tell unless i have my throttle held to a certain point.

if it helps the vss wire at the ecu is a yellow/red wire that you would run to your guage cluster if you were using the SiR guages, other then that check the FAQ they have guage cluster wire diagrams, Im 99.9% sure that the wires have nothing to do with your vtec.

You should just have to worry about your knock, 2nd o2, solnoid and pressure

WRONG!! ^^^

All you need is to run a wire from your cluster to your ecu and that should fix it...and wallah, you'll have VTEC! You don't have to run an electronic VSS nor switch to an SIR cluster... I don't have the ecu pinout for a P30 but you can at least search for that along with your gauge cluster diagram..
*He's right though about the YELLOW/RED wire for the VSS signal on the ecu.

Wrong? i never said anything about the wire from the cluster to the ecu for vtec?? I never ran anything from my cluster to my ecu and i have vtec.... I am telling him to clear the cel 17 he has to use the the electric vss that comes with the b16 tranny and you cant connect the wires from the electric vss to something thats not there thats why some people swap in the SiR cluster. I chose to just change out the entire vss from electric to cable and just let my check engine light glow How is the cable going to tell the ecu that the vss is plugged in, it cant thats why he has cel 17

The wire from the cluster to the ecu does seem sensable knowing that after i fixed up my cluster harness my vtec started to work like i said they have pinouts in the FAQ that show how to install SiR clusters and EDM clusters and what not and in those links it should show the pinouts for USDM rex or civic

Yeah, I know about the electronic vss. But the first gen b16a that was in the CRX in japan came with a cable speedo.

I will look around and see if i can come up with anything.

FYI, you can run a cable VSS, USDM cluster, JDM B16 motor and still have Vtec and no cell code 17...as long as the signal from your cluster is being received by your ecu...and that my friend is what you need to research, since like I said, I don't have the pinout for either..

Then you have to swap out the elec vss with a cable one so you dont have to swap out your cluster....but you have to make sure that your ecu gets the vss signal from your usdm cluster.
