Default Introduction

I am new to this board and would like to introduce myself. My name is Mark and I live in Houston, Texas. I work as an operations process unit supervisor at a large oil refinery here. No...I am not an urban cowboy. I did like the movie though and even went to Gilley's back in the late 1970's. My 1991 Pontiac Grand Am was totaled earlier this month in a hit and run accident. To make a long story short I purchased a 2007 Civic LX (Auto Trans). My wife drives a Pilot, which we bought new in 2006. Prior to the Pilot, she owned a 1998 CR-V that we had also bought new. I have always been a Honda fan and really feel good about my new Civic. Of course I am not too happy about having another car payment, but such is life. The only thing that bothers me is that I am only getting about 22 mpg so far. Granted I only have 300 miles on it so far. Looking at another thread on this board it appears as though my mpg may improve once the engine is properly broken in. Anyway, I really appreciate all of the great information on this board and I hope to learn and contribute as I get to know my Civic a little better.

I plan to keep it pretty stock for now. I need to buy the Helm service manual and do a little reading. When it comes time for my first oil change I will convert it over to Mobil 1 5W20, just like my wife's Pilot. I have only had my Civic since 5/4, so I have not had much time to take it out for a long drive yet. Good to meet you!

wait till it breaks in...their is a break in fluid and your suppose to keep it for 3-5000 miles...with your ac on and the way you drive you might not get their yet...300 miles is too few of miles...

i feathered my civic si and got 31 mpg the first tank..then i rode it like i stoled it and it went down to 21 mpg overall...not happy but machines have to break in...after the first or second oil change..it will get better...just how new cars are...

i have a pilot...a civic...and a cbr 600rr...all got crappy mileage until broke in

I read about the special break-in oil that Honda uses and I will wait until the Oil Life reading is at 5% before I even think about changing the oil. I do my oil changes myself and use the Honda OEM oil filter. I have been really pleased with Mobil 1 5W20.
