Default Solid CEL car wont start

1991 CRX HF totally unmolested wiring

I was driving down the road the other night, and the car cut off.the main relay clicked and the check engine light came on. I pulled over and checked for codes,no codes, checked all fuses, changed the main relay and the ecu and still wont crank up. It turns over, but the main relay doesn't click the second time, the ecu doesn't flash, solid cel, and the fuel pump prime. So I leave it

I go back the next day check everything again, wont crank. I un hook the underdash fuse box, hook it bach up and it fired right up. I am on the way home and it cuts off again. I unhook the fusebox again and try it and it wont crank this time. I tow it home. The next day I try and it cranks right up. I turn it off.

So I crank it again the next day and let it idle in the driveway, after two minutes it shuts off.The main relay clicked like I turned off the ignition, solid cel. I leave it alone and do the same thing the next day it cranks up again, shuts off 2 minutes later with the same symtoms. No it wont even crank up for two minutes.Nothing.

The things I have done
1)Changed the ecu with three known good ones
2)Changed the main relay with three know good ones
3)Changed the under dash fuse box with a good one
4)Changed the ignition switch
5)Checked the thermostat grounds and they are good and tight, and used a volt meter to double check them. checked all grounds
6)I realized the tranny ground was unhooked from the recent clutch job and hooked it up. still nothing
Please help if you can. TIA

No its my hf with the sohc zc in it.

Why would the dizzy stop the fuel pump or ecu from getting power?

had the same problem on my corolla, it was my distributor.

have you checked to see if you are getting spark at all? generally speaking, first two things you should check for are spark and fuel. pull a plug wire and ground it to a shock tower bolt and have someone crank the engine for you.

I know I am not getting fuel, I will run out and check spark, But how will I get spark if the ecu isn't getting power?

It's a good question and I wish I had a direct answer. On my corolla I wasn't getting spark or fuel (checked spark with the grounded plug wire and pulled the fuel line off...separately of course ). I replaced my distributor and it fixed both.

Alright so it wasn'd the dizzy but you did point me in the right direction,so I am going to paypal you some money when I get home on monday. I took the dizzy off and saw a plug pinched between the tranny and the block. everything is hooked up so I don't know where it goes. I can't see the plug because it is inside the tranny. I pulled on the wires and they broke flush at the tranny. It is three wires, green/white, yellow/white, yellow. anyone know where these go? they are under the dizzy where the harness splits to go to the dizzy and o2 ect. I am thinking they have something to do with the old hf motor(It has a sohc zc in it now).

I was gonna say check the ignitor. I had that go out once, and the car shut down.

well green with a white tracer is a honda standard color for 5volt sensor source. so if you had a 5v off of the ecu blatantly shorted to ground you could be stalling etc whenever it made contact. chassis vibration will do some strange ****.

yel and yel/wht. i gotta look at a diagram to break down teh possibilities as to what those wires may be for (yel/wht is commonly a 12v sensor source).

I'm not at the house today, but I did get it to crank. Where the engine harness goes under the dizzy,it branches up to the dizzy, then along the top of the tranny going to the water temp sender,o2,reverse signal,ECT. Well each plug branches off the harness in its own seperate loom, and there is a seperate plug in between the tranny and block. I don't know what the plug goes to as everything is hooked up where it needs to be. It is a three wire plug. the car runs with no cel, so I don't know.

I remember when I put the zc in the car I used the hf engine harness and there was 1 extra rectangular plug. I will figure it out on monday and let everyone know.

Thanks Honda-Tech

The wires were for the egr valve. Im glad this motor doesn't have one.

did you check to see if the wires were still "hot". short to ground will cause problems.

code 20 is eld. you have a bad alternator most likely.
