weird internal knocking type sound??help!!
i just installed a d16z6 in my rex. when it was out i changed the rod bearings, carnk/main bearings, piston rings, cleaned everything real good( internally), new oil pump, all new seals and gaskets. it has 182 miles on it since i rebuilt it, just got it running the other night. i am scared something might be messed up. i have been babying it for almost all of these miles. some guy pissed me off real bad last night while i was driving and i reved the engine up at him....hit a pretty high rpm, not quite red line, but close enough. made me feel bad and i was listening to the engine under the hood this morning and again tonight, there is a weird noise that sounds like it is coming from the block. can't tell which chamber, or area. but if a flutter and a knock had sex, this noise would be the baby? it isn't a deep noise, and it only does it when the rpms drop between maybe 1700 and under. like if you touch the gas real light , when the rpms fall, it has a breif moment that has this weird noise. and it isn't a scrapping. almost like a ratlle, but has more of a knock backround than a vibration like a rattle would have. i am a kinda of stressing about all this crap, i know people say to baby the **** out of it until 500 miles when u change internal peices. anybody have a clue what this noise could be. also i think i have a bad oxygen sensor, so if that some how changes any guesses..??? sorry so long and confusing, i am confused real bad myself... thanks
what clearances.......?? you mean like torque specs? i don't remember now, i had a sheet of paper with all the torque specs written out, and i had a torque wrench. i know i did all that crap right. i fixed the exhaust leak today so i can hear a little better, and it isn't coming from the block. it is coming from where the tranny and block meet. so i think maybe i didn't get the flywheel tight enough? better than something knockin internally, but still am not looking forward to taking the tranny back out again. too much of a bitch to get the splines lined up going back in. i guess live and learn though. and no, no oil lights coming on.
when it was out i changed the rod bearings, carnk/main bearings
i just ordered new bearings..all oem replacment stuff, whatever stuff came stock in the engine. it didn't need any type of machine or head work. the engine is running fine. the sound is coming from the tranny, not sure what from though. i think the flywheel or something around the clutch area might be warped or loose? only makes the rattle noise at 1100 rpms? i have no clue but plan to fix it.
