My civic or my acura...need advise
I need some advise guys. Currently I have a '96 civic that is basically my daily driver and I have an '06 tsx that i take on trips and drive from time to time. I would like to do some more spirited driving with one of them but I'm not sure if I should make the civic that car or the tsx. Obviously, the civic has more options/parts. The civic has about 155k miles on it though, so i'm thinking if I decided to boost it, I'd need to rebuild the engine or do a swap? What do you guys think? Would you pick the civic or tsx????
EDIT: Its settled, the civic

I would rather use the civic for "spirited" driving IMO. A TSX is a nice new car... a 96 civic is nice too, but I would rather have something go wrong in that and not my 06.
yeah, i think the civic would be a better choice the more I think about it. I just needed to hear it. Any suggestions for getting around 200whp on this engine?
Leave the tsx as your weekend nice car. Track AND daily drive your civic.
Tsx doesn't have a good aftermarket parts market.
Mod the civic.

I would boost it. 200whp on a D is reasonably obtained with some searching and minimal amounts of money compaired to building a n/a motor or doing a swap. If your motor is in good condition it shouldn't be a problem. Replacing the timing belt and water pump is always a good idea depending on the mileage. Oh, and a good tune

Its been very well kept, I have changed the oil every 3k and haven't driven it hard at all. I replaced the timing belt and water pump right at 90k also. other than that, i've never had any problems but I would like a little more power in one of my cars.
its a 1996 civic ex, is that d16y8? sorry i'm a newb. I have a friend that is very knowledgeable, has built his own civic before and would be able to help me do all the work.

Sounds like it's in good shape. Just get a compression test and if it's good then boost it. If you blow it up then swap it for another y8. They're a dime a dozen.
Your buddy sounds capable of swapping a y8, it's not difficult at all.

If you go in the So Cal for sell marketplace I just saw two people selling complete turbo kits for D-series. One even had the guage bezel for a EK/EJ8 w/ gauges for about 1200. And I believe that one was Greddy or the other one... CARB stamps come with Greddy kits i believe.
definately the civic, boost it, meanwhile get a D16Y8 and build that up for more boost
how much of an issue is money with you, or how much are you willing to spend???

Don't want to spend a great deal. I also don't want to have to worry about torque steer/wheel hop that much. I'd say between $1k and $2k if thats an option for around 200whp. That should be alot of HP, shouldn't it? for such a small car i mean.

No, spending money on i/h/e would be stupid if he plans to boost. He would have to take all those parts off and replace them with turbo parts. Then that would be money wasted.

Spending money on i/h/e on any d-series is a waste.

If you are putting 200whp down, how much are you putting to the crank on average?
OP... that kit I was telling you about for sale in the SoCal marketplace(one of them) said that the kit was making 200whp im pretty sure. Your goals arent far fetched at all.

is that question for me? because i really dont know the average powerloss through the drivetrain

Yeah, get an S2k and eliminate all practicality out of the equation.

How old are you?
