I've never painted a car before, and I want to try on a beater I just picked up. I have access to a bigass compressor and I'm thinking about buying an affordable single gun (under $100 if possible) What should I look for in the gun? What nozzle sizes will I need? I'm wanting to do primer, base, and a clear coat with the same gun. It's an 89 Hatchback with faded OEM "Superior Blue Metallic" and is rust free since it is a Texas car. How much paint should I purchase for this project? I'm going big and doing a color change to Championship White. I figure it won't be too hard since both colors are light.
Any help would be appreciated!

I know it's a little more expensive than $100 but you could try going with the lower end Devilbiss guns http://www.eastwoodco.com/shop...17688. That will come with all the tips you need. Unless you want a 1.5 or 1.6 tip for your base, but you should be fine with the 1.3 for base and clear. I would suggest using seperate guns for base and clear though. Look a bit deeper on Eastwood, you may find some better deals.
As for paint, you'll need a decent amount for an over-all. Maybe start out with 2 quarts (4 quarts sprayable, after reduced) and go from there. You'll also need primer and clear of course.

What is the advantage of using 2 different guns? Can't I just clean the single gun and move on to the next stage with a different tip?
I was thinking something more like this set:

Does all automotive paint need to be thinned out? Is it better to shoot multiple coats of very thin paint vs painting thicker coats? I wish I knew some bodymen around here that could go to the store with me and guide me.
