civic hybrid fuel mileage?
anyone here own a civic hybrid? Is the fuel mileage as good as they claim it to be? I want to buy one b/c of the expensive gas prices but I'm worried about reliability and how one is supposed to drive it to accomplish the high fuel mileage claims.
Can someone here provide some feedback from their own personal experiences?
Thanks

what you see on the sticker, is bull kaka. ive tested it and the best highway, and VERY little city mpg i got was 36, and that is babying it. the gauge on the dash will say about 40 to 50 when driving but when you fill it up after driving it doesnt match.
I have had one for almost a year. It does do what the numbers say, but you have to change your driving habits. You cannot drive it like a regular car. In a sense it made me a better driver since I drove really aggressively. Driving the hybrid made it a game of wanting to get the most mpg than the tank before. We bought a 2005 Civic Hybrid in March and drove it 250 miles home at about 65-70 mph. We filled it immediately before leaving and immediately upon arriving home. The gauge said 46.5 and my hand calculation produced 48, so it was very close. I just filled it again yesterday for the first time since Easter. The gauge was showing 36.5 for around-town driving.

Very True...I always try and stay out of assist and always try and keep the battery charged....that means your not hitting the gas as hard. I love the Voice activated Navi.
Just picked one up yesterday and I'm going to calculate the MPG when he tank is empty

Well...I've owned a 2006 for a year now and after keeping careful records of the last 10 fill ups, my average has been 44.5. We don't baby it all that much, although we are more aware than previously. Things like letting off the throttle when nearing a stop or traffic light, which only makes sense, hybrid or not.
I am amused watching other drivers accelerating past me only to stop at the red light that I arrive at a few seconds after them! I think, "Were'nt they looking ahead and didn't they see that red light?" Makes no sense...
And, FYI, the onboard computer is a little conservative in it's MPG calculation, it read 42.5 to my actual 44.5.

I've had mine for 15 months and 21,000 miles since new. Overall average since new is 48.3 mpg. My summer mileage tends to be worse (range/tank: 46-54 mpg). Winter mileage is a bit better (range/tank: 49-63 mpg). I've gotten 600 miles on one tank on a few occasions. Best mileage: 70 mpg over 150 continuous miles. I always back-calculate fill-up versus the meter. The meter tends to underestimate my mileage (ie. 54mpg on calculation, 52mpg on meter). All figures quoted so far are from the meter only. My driving is mixed city and highway.
You definitely have to change your habits. It takes about 10,000 miles before the motor and battery are fully broken in. During my first 3000 miles, my overall average was about 37 mpg. You definitely have to change your habits. If I floored it like my S2000 for the hell of it, I'll get about 30mpg. There are a ton of things that can affect mileage: driver, wind, wet roads, temperature, elevation, # hills to climb, road texture, A/C.
