I was bolting up my new exhaust and wondered how much power i could gain by running no rear section or muffler at all. The car was super loud and sounded crazy as hell. It was such a unique sound that i decided to leave it off for a while. The Vtec is ear piercing and that is no joke......the sound reminded me of the Spoon full tune Type-R. Now to the point of this post.....Is there any negative effects to running no rear section on our cars??? if so please let me know because i want to leave it this way...thanks for the help
I don't see any negative effects of running open exhaust, besides the fact that cops will be paying more attention to you.
I ran open header for a while wiating for my 2.5" CAT to come in. more top end, but crazy sound. You could hear me from blocks away coming, very loud but lets not get into the story of the 5 cop cars who pulled me over

my car has an apexi n1 turbo muffler, 2.5" under axle NO RESONator piping, HF CAT, Mugen 4-1 header and my car sounds like a N1 championship car!...as a result rarely sees the street!...car sounds like a Tiger purring on steriods and then all heel starts to break loose at around 3K rpms then the sound smooths out at 4.5-5Krpms and then VTEC..its such a subliminal sound!......sounds like a full fledged race car!

it sounds like a cross between a harley and a loud dump truck....very deep and droney inside the car at partial throttle, loud as FAWK at WOT, I couldn't take it...

there is no way these exhaust setups can be driven on the street!....you would be very VERY lucky to get away with it for a day!....But it intimidates a lot of ricers here! because its not your typical exhaust note!
Probably no negative effects to your car, but, coming from somewhat of a tree-hugger, it pollutes. It's also illegal. What's the benefit of doing this on the street anyway? More noise?
wouldnt the lack of back pressure cause loss of power in the lower rpms? and also wouldnt black stuff get all over the car?
Anybody that was at expo heard what an open header sounds like.... It's fawking loud.

as opposed to spoon's USDM itr...LOL
yes, less back pressure does cause less torque down low---but more hp up top...

Uhhh hello?! Anyone ever heard of carbon monoxide? The exhaust systems pipes the gases under and away from the car for a reason. If you are ignorant enough to run your car without a proper exhaust system - for the love of God keep your windows open.
