12k for an S2K possible?
looking for a daily driver. $12k or lower possible?
btw, why is the gas mileage not that good for a 4cyl with a 6spd? 5th and 6th are OD gears right? 20/28 MPG kinda sucks. are these realworld numbers...say if it's kept out of VTECH during regular driving? i'm already getting 19/27-32 city/hwy in a heavyass LS1 Trans Am convertible with an auto.
city MPG is where i need my DD to do good.
edit: my LS1 is getting more like 17-18 city. tough to guage this since i jump on the highway whenever possible.

1. 12K is possible... prolly been in an accident, needs work, or doesnt have a motor... http://www.cars.com/go/search/...=true
there it is... go buy it
2. when your revving at 4,500-5k all the time its gonna eat up gas, but still not taht bad...
3. ugggghh vtecH again...
4. hate to break it to you but there is no way your getting 27-32 highway miles in an LS1 trans... thats just not happening... unless ur only running on half your cylinders...

most people don't believe it. i used to not believe C5 Corvette forums claiming 35-36 MPG cruising at 70mph neither (2.73 gears 6spd) ...especially when my Mustangs were nowhere near that and with less power. but now i do after i bought my LS1.
i'll even bet you $1000 cash that i can do 32mpg or better if i cruise at 55mph on a relatively flat road. i'm in Maryland. i'll be heading up to Jersey City for work in around 2 weeks if you want to take me up on it.
the 32mpg was when i got stuck behind a cop who wouldn't let anyone pass....around Elko, NV heading towards Reno. he would turn on his sirens whenever someone was about to pass him. this went on for nearly 2 hours....he had 3 passengers who looked like civilians so he was showing off for them. they all looked and laughed each time someone backed down from trying to pass.
thanks for the link, but that car's in Sacramento lol. i actually drove my LS1 from DC to San Jose and back. worse MPG was 25 but that's with lots of 130-140 mph sprints and mostly driving 85-90 mph.

you could probaby find one for 12k but with high miles.
but yeah those ls1's do get good gas mileage highway and decent city if you stay out of the throttle

this was also at certain parts of Nevada where i was able to see far, far ahead. i didn't keep it at 130-140 for long because i was on H-Rated Pep Boys tires.
most people were driving 80-85 since the speed limit was 75 most of the way. so passing them were done at around 100 mph. so maybe there were lots more sprints to 100mph.
Caddys with the Northstar gets 20/32+ and it's a V8 luxury car. people with imports thinks American V8s can't get good MPG but they forget that a 4banger is only getting really good mileage when you keep it at 50-55mph. but no one can bear this on a 75mph limit interstate on a long trip. at 70mph, V8s with tall gears and 5th & 6th OD can still be only at around 1500-1700 rpm. while 4-cylinders are buzzing at 3000+
just drove 1700 miles roundtrip for work in a new Neon and Hyundai Accent rental. 75-85mph average....90% highway. they both were buzzing at 3000-3500 rpm. average was 33-34mpg for the Neon and 32-33 for the Accent. i have a thing for keeping records of MPG.
these were stock 4-bangers. much worse if you've got real mods such as bigger cams, injectors, etc... in a Honda.

i'm seeing $14k being the lowest around here. hmm, top will cost around $800-1000 parts/labor right? i'm tempted to bring $12k in cash to see what someone with a $14k asking price will say.

We recently had a very large car lot in my area sell a Silverstone 01 with 139xxxmi. on the clock for $10,900. Not only that, but this car lot is notorious for overpricing their cars, so this one sold pretty fast.
I never got to see the car in person because it was gone by the time I got there, but they said it was fairly clean. The salesman asked to look inside my car, and said it was a really clean car, but mine only has 46K, too. However mine is a year older, so I guess theirs wasn't as nice as mine.

WTF? what are you talking about?
the c6 still has the imfamous tall **** overwhelmingly overdrive, that's how they acheive good hwy mileage.(insert american v8 w/ good mileage jokes here)
look at the surface street average, that's the first five gears.
pretty much a five speed manual, because six gear just for cruise
(even tho i have no clue how the slushbox vs stick)

I got mine for $11,700...but I just got an awesome deal....the type where all the good deeds you've done throughout your life just all come together and come back to you at once.
As for the gas mileage...I don't know. You'd think they'd give it an extreme 6th gear. I though that's the point of 6th gear. Anyway, I get like 20mpg in the city, but keep it close to red pretty much every time I accelerate.

30-32+mpg is not uncommon from the 6-speed LS1+ motors. 0.50:1 final gear ratio means less than 2000rpm at 75mph. With very tall gear and good aerodynamics, even a big V8 will get impressive fuel economy.
I just bought a 'rebuilt title'd 2002, paid $14k out the door for it. 49,000 miles. It was rear-ended in February (has new drivers rear quarter panel, rear bumper, and trunk lid. Weird thing is that the air bags didn't deploy.
Anywho, yes $12k is possible but like previous posters have said - it'll probably be still damaged, etc.
I did see a bank repo auction here sell a 2001 with a clean title for $11,500 last week.
