Default intake battery destruction

Hello HT!...first post ever, my name's Nick btw

Well I was driving home and I was taking my exit off the freeway, and suddenly I notice all my lights shut off. Tried putting Hazards - nope...so I was like "WTF!". I quickly pulled to the side and popped my hood. There was white smoke coming from under the hood and when I opened it, I saw that my negative battery cable ( the wire that is NOT next the the intake pipe) was fried to ****. The positive terminal had a rubber cover, which I thought would be enough protection, but I guess not. It only "started" to turn a little black.

edit: This part didnt go though...
Im going to buy new battery cables tomorrow, but what is the proper way to install them? I searched but I havent found any intruction. What others things do you think I'll have to replace? The white smoke was from the burning wires right?

replace the ground wires under the hood. it should be the one comin off the battery, one runnin from the valve cover to the frame. you can run a couple extra if you want. i ran one from a bolt near the dizzy also to the battery so i ground the engine straight to the battery.

He bought a new battery and neg. cable because it was tested that it couldnt hold a charge. He said he put it in this morning and it worked fine! He's just worried that something could be on the verge of being fried/crapped over from the shortage, like fuses n such. Should he worry?
