What year/model Civic can I get a clock spring from?
I just bought a 1995 Honda Civic Del Sol with a 4 speed automatic transmission. Pretty cool car, it has 118K miles on it and I want to keep this one. I have one problem that needs fixing pretty quickly, everything electrical on the steering wheel itself is quite dead. No horn, SRS light on dash never goes on, ever, cruise control master switch on dash goes on and lights, no cruise control because the accel/deccel buttons to start it are on the steering wheel. Fuses all check good, the horn never gets power. All mechanics tell me that I need a new clock spring. I found really great instructions on how to change this part safely and want to do it, but money is in very short supply. I found what I thought was an ideal replacement on eBay, right here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...98916
I write the fellow and he says:
"I don't think that this will work for your automatic Del Sol. It would work for the Si model w/ 5 speed trans. You can call your local Honda dealer to check with them. This one is from a 95 Civic 4 door LX with a 5 speed trans."
Of all the rotten luck, this was bidding at $19.95! Please help me, Almighty Honda Gurus, do tell me how to know what year/model/ or whatever else is relevant with regards to a clock spring or cable reel for my Civic Del Sol. Must it be the same year, model, and transmission type to work? I would think that they would not make so many different clock spring parts as they all pretty much do the same thing other than the number of electrical connections that need to be made; i.e.: horn, cruise control, & air bag. I need this part bad, I need it cheap, and I need it soon. How do I know what cars it can be taken from to work in my '95 Civic Del Sol with 4 speed automatic transmission on the center console?
Oh God, somebody please help with this! Thank you.

Same part number! Buy it!
The S has a similar part number and would probably work too, but I can't confirm that for you (that part number is in the 94-95 Integra RS, 93-95 del Sol S and 93-95 years of the following Civics too).

I got a clock spring from a fellow on ebay for $21. I know nothing at all about clock springs, steering wheels, or any of that stuff, never took a steering wheel off in my life. Here is what I bought:
YOU ARE BIDDING ON THIS 94-95 HONDA CIVIC OEM (NOT JDM) SRS CLOCK SPRING CABLE REEL. THIS WILL FIT 94 OR 95 CIVIC MODELS. IT MIGHT FIT OTHER MODELS, BUT YOU MUST CHECK. THE AIRBAGS FROM THIS CAR HAVE NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED. IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION AS THE REST OF THESE PARTS FROM THIS 95 CIVIC. THE PRICE FOR A NEW ONE OF THESE WILL COST YOU $326.60.
I used directions that I found here and on honda-acura.net, the directions were how to change the steerring wheel to a custom one with only a horn button and nothing else, came with pictures too! There was also a video on how to center a clock spring, pretty neat. I read it all, had the tools that were specified in the tool list (Actually had to buy a T30 ratchet tip, 1/4" ratchet, 1/4" ratchet extensions, a 1/2" 19mm socket, and a 1/2" ratchet extension.) and just did the job when got home from work.
Considering I don't know Jack about this job, I started at around 7:00 PM and finished at 11:00 PM and everything worked just fine. My horn works now, my cruise control works now, but I still don't ever see my SRS light come on, even when I turn on the key before starting the engine. I wonder if that means that the air bag won't work.
Anyway, job done, thanks for all of your help everyone.
